Most of them are 1. Dead 2. Made millions 3. Are still making millions (and dead)

Most of my favorites have been listed already.

One thing that most do not realize, unless they have been exposed to the professional music scene, that some of the best were extremely HIGH at their best. Being a guitar player myself, I have played both HIGH and not high. Let me tell you, if you are good enough to pull it off when HIGH, my friend, you are one badaxe.

That being said, some of those mentioned would fall on their face if stoned. (Not condoning drug use as a creative channel either. Lol)

Anyone that knows anything about music won't argue that Christine. Slash, many of these other nominees aren't even in the same league. One other I will mention is Steve Vai and Stevie Ray is one of the top imo also.

Why would anyone laugh at Brad Paisley being on the list. He's a fabulous guitarist. Ditto Keith Urban.....and the guy they both try to emulate (playing-wise)......Vince Gill.

another couple country players that get very little love as being phenomenal players... Vince Gill and Willie Nelson... if you run a search on youtube you'll find a vid of Vince Gill on stage with Eric Clapton and he BLOWS Clapton away... he really is a great player...

I've been really into acoustic stuff lately, and two of my favorite are Andy McKee and John Butler.

I know these guys don't shred and play riffs nearly as difficult as some of the best guitar players, but there is a thing of beauty about acoustic music that I love.

As far as some of the greatest guitarists' ever... I'd have to go with Tommy Emmanuel, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, Jimmy Page.... and the list goes on. There are so many awesome guitarists' out there. I forgot to mention Carlos Santana.... his guitar has one of the most distinct sounds ever.

while I'm a fan of Santana, I wouldn't consider him in the "best ever" discussions...

Hard to judge "best ever", but most of my favorites have been mentioned.
    My favorites are:

    Duane Allman
    David Gilmore
    Eric Clapton
And a couple that haven't been mentioned, The Edge & Jack White
