With all the music talk going on, who do you guys feel is the best guitarist ever? Slash, Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page? Personally, and my opinion is biased because I love Guns N' Roses, is Slash. His solo in November Rain is incredible and his intros to Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine and Paradise City give me chills every time I hear them. Let's hear it.
depends on the style you're talkin about.... personally I'm a big David Gilmour fan, but that's mostly cuz I enjoy playing his music... Stevie ray Vaughn (and his big brother Jimmie) are some of my favorites also... if I had to pick a singular best guitarist i've ever heard it would be Jeff Beck... I never really appreciated his playing until I started playing myself... he nuances his licks so much you have no idea how impressive it is until you understand the skill it takes to play it... I'm also a fan of the 3 King's (BB, Albert, and Freddie), and I HAVE to tack on Billy Gibbons, Hendrix once called him the best guitarist he'd ever heard...
True. My question was with classic rock in mind. The Kings were great, dually noted. Duane Allman of the Allman brothers and then another rock vote with Kirk Hammett from Metallica were also great. I guess I should have reworded the thread title to favorite guitarist?
hendrix - backwards and upside down!!!!! WHAT bb king - lucille was a bad b*#ch william collins "bootsy"- baddest bass in the land eric clapton - guitar souned like water duane allman - best slide you ever heard "ear-gasms" oops forgot one chi-town's own curtis mayfield - f-u-n-k
I know nothing about guitars, but I do know that Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are very good at it. They are actually pretty amazing. (As much as I despise Keith Urban)
I'm with Seven Mag with the David Gilmour comment, then I would say maybe Tony Iommi, Frehley, Darrell (R.I.P.), and Wylde. but I'm only going off of the music I grew up listening to frequently. Now days, I would have to stick with the previous choices, and add Robby Krieger (Doors), Clapton, Jimmy Page, Townshend (who), John Lee Hooker, and Thorogood. I don't think I could narrow it down to a small list at all. I love music. It keeps me out of the moods that I don't want to be in, and puts me into the ones I do. EDIT: Oooooohhh. Isaiah got me with that Bootsie Collins... lol.
He is not the most skilled, but my favorite is Slash. Morello, Malmtreen, Hendrix, Buckethead...they are very skilled guitarist. Just Not as cool as Slash.
Tom Morello is the most underated player out there due to the music that he plays. The guy can wail on a guitar. Warren Haynes is one of my favorite. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, Hendrix, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Johnny Lang.... this list could go on forever.
Although I'm not a big fan of the Stones, Keith Richards could play in his day. Slash would be my favorite. I'll cash in my man card now and admit to seeing Prince in concert when I was in HS. He played a pretty mean guitar as well.
Hear. Hear. It should also be noted that Hendrix (arguably) BENEFITTED from playing a RH guitar upside down. Still, he was as innovative as they come. Eddie Van Halen? Unbelievable. Clapton? Iconic blues player (but not the "best"). Stevie Ray Vaughn? Gets my vote for "best". Finger-style players? TOO MANY to mention just one. "Virtuosos"? James Taylor is one. He defined a style. Another would be Steven Stills (acoustic). Bluegrass? Tony Rice. Another "virtuoso" (defined by style of play)....David Wilcox (the American). Others (in no particular order...which is only fair).... Duane Allman Carlos Santana Warren Haynes Mark Knopfler Lou Reed ****y Betts Derek Trucks Nancy Wilson Angus Young
To name a few, Steve Stevens Zach Wylde Alex Lifeson David Gilmour Rudy Schenker Stevie Ray Vaughn Robin Trower Angus Young Dimebag Darrell Neil Schon and many, many more !!
