I love my Manfrotto 701Hdv. They run rebates on them sometimes and you can get it for a great price.

Manfrotto everything. I also have the 701HDV. They're pretty hard to find sometimes.

I also have a Manfrotto 701HDV and have no complaints about it. What camera are you running?

It kind of depends on what the total weight of your camera gear. But most of us can get by with a 701HDV since it holds up to 8.82 pounds.

I have a 701HDV that I use on my tree arm. On my tri-pod I use a much larger 503HDV. It is over kill for my gear but I got it several years ago and really like it. It is butter smooth and way better than my 701HDV or a previous 501 that I used at one point.

How does the 701 compare to the 501? I know Campbells no longer carries the 701.

From my understanding the 501 is quite a bit larger than the 701.

The 501 is quite a bit bigger than the 701. It is a lot heavier. I had a 501 on my tree arm a couple years ago. I bought it thinking I would like it the same as my 503, but it was not nearly as smooth. So I sold the 501 and got a 701 to run a lighter tree set up. The 701 was more than sufficient for my XH-A1 at the time. My copy of the 501 was not smooth at all. Not nearly as smooth as my 701 and nothing at all like my 503.

They all use the same quick release plate though which is a plus.

    Here is the 701 at B&H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/556159-REG/Manfrotto_701HDV_701HDV_Pro_Fluid_Video.html

Manfrotto has been changing their fluid heads. The 501 and 503 are discontinued. They now have the 502 and 504. Pretty much the same size, just enhanced. I would bet that we see a new version of the 701 size in the near future.

I saw that they announced a 500 which is supposed to replace the 701.

Cool. I figured it was only a matter of time. Probably see some good prices on 701 heads slightly used as some guys upgrade to the latest and greatest.

I got mine in the spring when Manfroto had a tebate going. I got it new with delivery for $114 after the rebate.

Glad to hear you got a job congrats. Are you having them just deposit your checksndirectly to bowhunting.com since that is where your money will go anyways?
