Hi, just registered here and seeking advice on bows and this looked like the best place to get it.:tu: I have never owned a bow in my life but really wanting to give bow hunting white tails a shot this year. Should have really done research months ago about this but as always put off til last second. I have no idea what makes a bow "good" and what brands to start looking at. So, hoping I can get some advice from you guys on what the best compound bow would be for the price. Limit I got to spend is about $350-400. Dont need anything fancy just able to be accurute and take down some deer. I obviously need as much practice as I can get in before season starts so need to choose one within a week. Would really appreciate any advice/suggestions. Thanks.

Start at a local proshop most are willing to help you out and can get you started for a decent price and as for what brand its all about how it feels for you, I grew up shooting Bear bows but try a couple to find the best fit for you.
Good luck and shoot straight :tu:

My advice is to find some local archery dealers in your area. Tell them your situation and budget and start test shooting bows. You will find out what you like and dislike in a bow. Every mainstream company makes a good bow. It's all about personal preference. I'm not company loyal, but I am loyal to my bow shop. Look for a shop that goes out of their way to help you and make you feel confortable with your purchase. If they act too busy or arogant, they probably arn't going to be too willing to help you with tuning your bow down the road.

You can get a good used bow for that money ...get fitted so you know your draw length and the weight you want to shoot...and then shop for a used bow...on line or at a pros hop

I just got my first bow last year and it was $75. I took it to ****s sporting goods and put less than 10 dolors into it. Best place to look for a bow to start with is on Craigslist just make sure that you look at it to make sure you like it. Best of luck

Thanks for the replies. Ill head over to a shop in the next few days and look at some and get draw length and weight. Any companies you guys prefer over others and why would be appreciated too as havent looked at many and with SO many different ones out there to choose from dont really know where to start. But as everbody has said best thing is probably just to go in and look around, having a company/companies in mind before going in there though might save me some time and possibly money.

For your budget, I would look at Bear. My last bow was a Bear and I think with the whole package it came to around 500 brand new. It killed deer just as good as any other bow.

The best bow for the money is a used one of the one you want.

$350-400 isn't going to get you new top of the line bow (but used is an option), however that doesn't mean you can't find a good bow. A big mistake new bowhunters make is letting their ego get in the way. Shoot the proper draw length (ie. if you measure 27" don't shoot a 29" draw length because you are convinced you are bigger than you are) and shoot a weight you can comfortably draw. If you have to squirm or aim the bow in the air while drawing it is too heavy.

    Good luck and have fun.

You're just thinking about it right now. Turn and run the other way as fast as you can before the addition takes hold...

Seriously though, the above advice is sound. There are some really good budget priced new bows made by Bear, Mission, and Diamond to name three companies that aim for that market. There are others as well. There are also some really good used bows out there that will shoot just as good as new ones. My advice on buying used is to be very careful. Either limit your purchase to a bow shop or buy from someone who will let you get it inspected by a bow shop before you buy it.

I think you will love the Diamond Infinite Edge. I used to have one and loved it. You can buy one for $300, put an NAP Apache on it and you will be set.

Well my first bow is on the way. A 2007 Bear Instinct. Heard enough good things about it and came with just about everything else I needed to get for $200. Well see.
