Putting some other names into the mix...........Marcus Allen, Mike Singletary, Warren Sapp, LaDanian Tomlinson, Billy Simms, Orlando Pace, Tony Dorsett, Ricky Williams, **** Butkus, Hugh Green,
As a Bama fan born and raised in Georgia I get to see alot of his highlights...It's all they got to show... My BIL ran track against him in highschool, he said he sounded like a train running, and it was hard to imagine someone that big who was that fast. He was a grown man among boys, and I have read that many in the know said he is the only guy who could have went from highschool senior to NFL starter without missing a beat. Too many greats to list, Tommy Frazier was unstoppable even though you knew it was coming every single time. Bo, herschel, archie griffith, Vince young, barry sanders, Tebow, etc etc etc...different eras, different players
There's one particular clip they show ALL THE TIME that I get tired of watching. Bill Bates got RAN OVER!
Obviously I am going to say Tebow. I am also going to throw another Gator name out there who certainly isn't to be considered the greatest college football player of all time, but a player who to this day I swear was one of the most unique talents in college football. Percy Harvin. I just don't think he gets enough credit for what he did as a Florida player.
I'm just going to throw out some recent names for fun, because I was too young to have watched the likes of Herschel, etc. Reggie Bush Michael Vick .. again not the greatest, but such a unique, unique talent. Vince Young deserves mention Colt McCoy.. I don't personally like him, but numbers don't lie. Ndmonkong (sp?) Suh.. He was a real force. Sam Bradford Ed Reed Again, the above names are just some of the special players we've had in college football recently.. not necessarily the greatest ever.
I always thought zibakowski(sp?) from Norte dame was a great safety. Aj hawk was one of my favorite players. I second the Vince young nomination I remember watching him run in that championship winning touchdown years back and there was no way anyone was stopping him. As you can see I don't know too many old players just the more recent from the early 2000.
Newton may not be the best college player of all time (because I agree one year isnt enough), but I don't think its even debatable he had at the very least a top 3 all time season performance. The year he had shattered so many records, including golden child Tebow's records. My pick would be Tebow, even following the last statement. Generational gap prevents me from commenting on older players.
The only reason the voting was somewhat close was because Manning was suppose to win. They practically gave me the trophy before the season even started, but Chuck was glorious in 1997. By far the best player in college football that year. I think Moss' numbers were as good as they could possibly be. He played against inferior competition and had one of the best QBs in college football. I don't think he puts up the numbers he did at either FSU or ND.
