I hunt in the hill country of Texas. The Bucks here are not as big to a south Texas buck. The axis bucks have bigger bodies then the whitetail bucks. Im shooting a Bowtech Assassin 70 lb pull weight with a 27 inch draw. What broadheads to you recommend for this deer. To give a example, a good size white tail buck would weigh field dress at 128 yet a Axis Buck would weigh 189lbs field dress.
I would look more at the rib structure rather than weight of the animal. Mature deer can get over 200lb field dressed in a lot of the country and people use all kinds of broad heads on them.. I would say about any broad head will work. Just make sure its something you confident in, is sharp and you can put where it needs to be. I would recommend going to the NAP website and looking around. They carry an array of broad heads that would get the job done. For me I would look at the Thunderhead family and the Hellrazor. Both are wicked broad heads. You will get a plethora of answers on here. I'm sure they'll all do the trick.
Use any broadhead you believe in, have confidence in, and shoots good out of your set-up. Make sure you shoot which ever broadhead you choose before hand and make sure that you can shoot it accurately at all ranges. You may need to tweak your bow a little bit to get them hitting with your FP and shooting good but its worth the time if you can gain the confidence with them. To first narrow your choices down I would ask myself if I wanted to shoot an expendable or a fixed blade. The I would look at the design to see which I liked and believed in. Make sure its sharp and put it where it needs to be and you will have a great harvest photo!
