Expect every broadhead will have a fan. I've taken game with 3 blade muzzy, montec CS, and slick trick standard, all 100 grain. what didn't work for me was T3 because one blade opened early and had erratic flight...though that was likely operator error on my part. I frankly prefer small fixed blade over mechanical for no particular reason.
Depends on many factors. I prefer the Rage Titanium (discontinued) I feel that mechanicals are best used with an arrow around 450 grains coming out of a bow with 70 pound draw weight. Have to hit hard to get the best results
Everyone different opinions, last year I went with Rages, this year i`m giving Swhackers a try! Thunderheads are always a good choice, I use those when we do deer management on the Does!
I'm a big fan of Slick Trick. Currently shooting 125gr Mags. A lot of great heads out there. I'm still a big fan of fixed blade heads. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I will add that the deer and hog that I had complete pass thru with montec CS and Slick Trick both dropped in 20 yards. The hog I didn't get a pass through went for about a hundred yards, so my goal now is to put the arrow complete through both lungs and out the other side which, with my poundage, dictates a small broadhead.
The best is one you can shoot accurately and have confidence in. For me that is a quality fixed blade head. Currently I am shooting the QAD Exodus but I have used Muzzy, Bear, Magnus, NAP, Wensel Woodsmen, and some self made trade points when I went through a primitive phase.
I'm a slick trick 100gr mag shooter. They fly well and always have excellent penetration. I shot a doe last year quartering away and that slick trick blew through her opposite shoulder like nothing. I'm truly confident that they will get the job done every time as long as my shot is good. Great blood trails too.
There are a lot of good broadheads out there today. I have several brands, some fixed and a few mechanicals. I think the best I have for flight and sharpness are the German Kinetics.
As far as mechanicals I've had good luck in the past with NAP Spitfires. I'm going fixed blades this year. Trying Trophy Taker Shuttle T-Lock broadheads. I love them so far. Flying same as my field tips and dead quiet in flight.
No right answer. I used to shoot muzzy 3 blades. I shoot NAP spitfires now. Killed a deer with an NAP shockwave once and it did great. It all really depends on your setup.
I shoot Phathead SOB's. They're the best of both worlds. They're a very sharp, strong fixed head with 2 kick out blades that open on impact to increase you're cutting diameter.
Everyone of course will have their favorites. If I'm using a mechanical, I prefer the Swhacker 125 gr 2". For a solid blade, Wac'em. I am going to try some Montecs this year, no particular reason, just something different to try. One of these days I will be out of town hunting and realize I ran off and left my broadheads at home. So, as many different ones I can find that are usually pretty available most anywhere is good to know how they shoot.
There is no such thing as the best. Each will have pros and con to them and it depends on what type of animal and where it is hit. So to many variables . All of archery is a balance of what you want . It all depends on what is most important to you. Speed ,balance ,flight, sharpness , penetration , cut size , endurance ?
