I have never had a good set of base layers. and i am realizing they are pretty much essential to have in order to be comfortable.

at this point cost is a big issue, i dont want to spend a ton of money on a base layer, so i would really like to get one set for the whole season.
i want something that wicks sweat because i tend to sweat a lot even on short walks. i dont really need them to be extremely warm (that way i can use them in the early season then just wear more layers for late season, but have the sweat wicking for the whole season)

what brand/ type should i get? where shold i buy it? usually ebay is cheapest?

I like my under armour cold gear a lot.
They can be pricey but you don't need the expensive stuff.
See if there is an outlet in your area. Also, some discount retailers will have it (we have TJ Maxx, Marshalls and something else). The key is to be ready to buy and not overly picky on the color.

I agree UA is the best I've found. I've tried a couple knock off brands and IMO, they don't compare to the UA. I have a set of cold gear that I've been using for 5 seasons now and it still looks like new. Good stuff.

I have been using X-System (was X-Scent) for years. Keeps you warm or cool, has Silver fibers for scent elimination. I recommend it. Costs $20-25 a top or bottom. In WI Fleet Farm has it in the fall and so does my local archery shop. I see it at natchezss.com. They have light weight and heavy weight fleece along with socks, gloves, etc..

I wear X-System base layer, socks, pants, shirt, gloves, face mask and hat. I rarely get winded by a deer. Good stuff, less than 1/2 the price UA and it works.

so looks like i am between UA or xsystem.
here is a question for you guys. if i am wanting to wear the gear mainly for the scent wicking, and want to wear it for the whole season, should i get cold gear or warm gear?
it will be seeing both cold and warm temps. will the cold gear be way too hot for the warm part of the season (40-60)

I cant wear my cold gear during the warm part of my season, but my highs are in the 80s-90s. I'll throw the cold gear on when our temps get down into the 40s.

I love the UA Cold Gear with Armourblock anti-bacterial lining.

You'll either love it or hate it. There will be no in-between.

My biggest complaint is that it makes the hair follicles on my arms/legs start to hurt after a half-day or so. Kinda like when you wear a winter beanie for too long, and your hair starts to hurt.

ok sounds like ill just get some cold gear, and wear it once it gets down to around 40. when its above that i just wont worry about wearing a base layer.

Genius!! Now you may be able to hunt for Musk OX in nothing more than shorts and a tee shirt.

The moisture-wicking properties of the cold gear really don't make it all that bad to wear on moderately warm days.

I wouldn't hesitate to wear it on a day where temps are topping-out in the low 70's. I just don't wear much over it - maybe a light pair of pants and an empty shell jacket that I carried in.

UA ColdGear as well. Going to either go with the 2.0 or 3.0 system this year for later in the season. Like Quick, I will wear my standard Cold Gear in warmer temps, but without much over it. It's moisture wicking ability makes it a non-issue in those higher temps.
