Another small guy... but I actually witnessed this shed fall off the bucks head. Justin gets the assist.
funny you write that... while I was out looking last week, I was thinking how cool it would be to bust one out of a thicket and watch him run across a field if he would drop one as he bounced across the expanse...
It actually happened about 2 weeks ago... but I've been very busy as of late. Justin and I were on my new lease when he kicked up about 7 or 8 deer while walking through some timber. I was out in the CRP and watched the deer including 3 bucks run out. The deer stopped on top a hillside about 200 yards away and I stood motionless watching them through me binos. The biggest buck got off the field in a hurry. But the 100" buck (I now have the shed off of) stood with a couple does. I noticed him put down his head and shake rather violently while backing up a few steps. At first I thought he was trying to fight off a doe for a meal... but then kinda ruled that out since the deer were all in so 'high alert' and still staring in Justins direction. The next time the buck threw up his head... he had 1 side on. Only problem was... I wasn't 100% sure he had 2 to begin with since I concentrated much of my glassing to the bigger buck who fled so fast. But I was pretty sure he did. I eventually met up with Justin and as we walked further away from the whole incident I just couldn't convince myself that the buck had just shed before my eyes. So... after walking about 300 yards in the opposite direction... I talked Justin into turning us around. I don't think he believed me at this point. We came to about the area the deer were standing and I was able to hit their tracks in the snow and follow them backwards... and low and behold.... THE FRESHEST SHED I've ever found. And I saw the buck shake it loose. Justin gets the assist. Nice job buddy!:D
