Ok, so I'm looking for a couple quality 2 man stands to hang around my property. Any suggestions? Also, I put up a big wooden stand that I made that has not been sprayed. I've heard that the deer will look right up in it. Is this true? Its a nice enough stand, but if its gonna spook the deer, I wont even bother. Its been out there since last summer. Thoughts?
Would like to hear what people thot bought wood stands to ! Thinkin about building some ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I haven't purchased one yet, but I was thinking of getting one of these to make filming hunts with my hunting crew easier. River's Edge 2 Man Bowman
Big game purchased muddy and now the new muddy 2man stands like the prestige and others are pretty awesome and relatively reasonably priced. Thick comfortable seats, movable shooting rests, (raises for bow hunting) and you can get a 20ft ladder if needed. As for wood stands I doubt if you'll leave it out for a few months they would care. I'm sure they'll notice it though the first few times. Sent from my ASUS PadFone X using Tapatalk
I have a buddy that is obsessed with building wood stands. They may work but I'd much rather buy a stand from a company that knows what they're doing than put my faith into wood and nails. The River's Edge stand looks like a good idea. Normal two man stands aren't that roomy, better suited for rifle hunting.
Woods stands can be roomy and nice but you have to build them really strong, i'd suggest using #9 3 inch deck screws with drilling a pilot hole is a good idea (they'll be quieter this way also). They're like $7 for a pound. I built one last year for the heck of it. Definitely use all treated lumber. They should be inspected annually for cracks and other wear. Wood stands should be ripped down after ten years or so when they become slimy and unsafe. This is so a kid (young hunter) in a few more years doesn't come along and break his neck cause kids don't think twice about climbing up stuff if it's safe or not. Wood stands can get slippery when wet and slime over the years. They also can be noisy when snow gets caked onto the wood and the bottom of your boot and you stand up to shoot. They are more easily seen but hopefully deer get used to them. Definetily use a HSS lifeline, they make one with 2 carribeaners for 2 people for $10 more. I built a single person one and supplies came out to roughly $100 and it took a lot of time and effort. In the end I wished I had bought a metal ladder stand that I could move and adjust. After installing mine I realized I wanted it facing a different direction . I will admit it's kind of nostalgic to hunt out of a wood one from time to time as this is how I did it in my early days.
I have a rivers edge and it is by far the most roomy and comfortable stand I've ever sat in. Biggest problem with it is staying awake.
