Ok so I pulled a couple cards for the first time this season. Got this one on camera. Looks like some great potential from the side. Hopefully will get another one straight on to see what he is working with! [/IMG]
Got a few stands hung on Monday. Hotter than heck, but it's a good kinda sweating! 9 more days here! Season opens next Friday and I think I should be able to sneak out for a sit Saturday evening.
Nice looking Buck. Neal, you got some great bucks, good luck this year. Not sure why Justin and Todd were giving you so much crap about throwing the seed... who hasn't done that. well made a quick trip out to the farm this past Monday to help my wife's grand parents out. Also took a quick trip to check cams and looks like one of our youngsters has already shed his velvet. Time stamp is off, it is 8/28. ALso had a buck checking out my mock scrape i made this year. Excited to get back out and set my last stand next weekend, then i won't be back until possibly Oct 8th, as my family is going to disney Oct 1 - 7. Good luck those that are hunting soon.
Less than 3 weeks until the opener here in NY! I would say 50/50 on bucks out of velvet here. I have all of my cameras set up pretty much where they will stay all season. Treestands have been pruned out. I'm excited for this year because my class schedule is going to be VERY hunting friendly. I will have Monday mornings, Wednesday mornings and from Thursday evening through the entire weekend to hunt. Just curious what everyone on the team is shooting for bows. I shoot a new Obsession K-34 that I picked up this year. Out of that is Black Eagle carnivores with a 3 blade muzzy. I've been shooting well all summer with it and can't wait till I can use it this fall. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Yeah - hot in MN. I may hang a new stand on water for opening morning. Dang south wind has me kinda stuck.
So since we're 18 days out, I'm going to do a little write up, for yall, about my plan for the first week. We lease some land out in extreme Western Oklahoma and we will be leaving the day before the opener to hunt for 8 days (10/1-10/8) then drive back on the 9th. Last year was me and Dad's 1st year hunting out here but it was a blast. We killed 3 does and could have gotten more. This year I am making an effort to get a couple of does but also work on trying to shoot a buck. Here is the property layout. Red pins are my stands, Blue pins are Dad's stands, and Green pins are spots we are likely to hunt but haven't set anything up yet. As you can imagine, my dad and I are allowed to hunt each other's stands, this is just a way to distinguish them lol #1 is my "main stand" (as of now) and a stand that I set last year on a fence line. Access is from the well site which makes it ideal to get in without disturbing anything. I killed 2 does off of this stand and have a camera out there now taking pictures, hopefully lets me know if any bucks are walking down that line at any time. This is a picture of that stand and the view from it. #2 is a spot I am very excited about. We put the stand up a month ago but there is a lot of sign and it is a quiet corner of the lease. There was a decent buck we had on camera a little further north of this spot, last season. I think there will be a lot of movement through this corner. #3 is a lock-on I had in a cedar tree that was so well hidden, you could have done jumping jacks in the tree and the deer wouldn't have seen you. Problem is, I only saw 1 deer, a 4pt, from the stand in 2 hunts. I think I was hunting it on the wrong wind. I expected deer to travel north onto the property but now I believe they are bedded north of that location. First time hunting a property mistake. The Green pin to the east is a potential move spot depending on sign. The Ground Blind also has me excited (see a trend?). The trees there are about 15' tall but branch off at the ground and you can't get a stand in them. There is a creek running through them and a few major crossings. When we get there I plan on setting the blind up there with a camera and trying to hunt it later in the week. Oklahoma allows 1 fall turkey tag and I plan on trying to get that filled, the place is loaded with birds. We killed 4 in the spring. There are other guys hunting with us on the place, so if you see spots that look like ideal places but can't figure out why there aren't pins there, that's your answer. Hope everyone is as excited as I am for this season to open up! I'm going to attach a few more pictures below this and a video from our turkey hunt to give you an idea of what I'm working with.
Looks like you have an awesome set up!! Looks like plenty of deer to go around and hopefully you'll have even better luck this year
Myself and my hunting partner have been hanging stands, putting corn out and doing some major scounting on some new property that's apart of a hunt club. I think we for sure can get a doe down opening day.
That sounds like the ticket with the heat. I luckily have a creek that holds water year round running through the middle of property I hunt on. Tends to keep the deer more concentrated around the creek when its hot and dry like it's supposed to be.

Ahhhh man, that's some good looking deer! I think that 12 point would get us a good start on this competition haha Good luck Illini, you were on Team 20 when we won 2 years ago right?

Holy smokes I just went through the submitted kills for this year and there are some really dandy bucks already on the scorecard. Wonder if this will be a high scoring year!
