Trailed blood for 100 yards or so and lost it. We grid searched. Nothing. I have a dog coming this evening. I can’t believe I flubbed this up. It was a chip shot. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Check near water sources, when they’re wounded they like to bed near water Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I checked around the duck pond there with no luck. There’s a lot of marshy stuff around. Over 150” biggest buck I’ve ever seen while hunting Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hopefully that dog will get on the trail and find it for you! That would be sweet for you and a boost for the team as well!
We finally got moved into our new house so I have a little more time on my hands for hunting. Still some interior decorating (hanging crap on walls) but the rut takes precedence haha I'm off on Friday and hopefully will get in an all day sit. Hi of 45 low of upper 20's so should be perfect here. Gun season starts on Saturday. I will be out in the afternoon and probably Sunday too. Good luck everyone, keep hammering out there.
Going meet the guy & dog now. Someone’s hunting near there so we’re going to go at dark. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’m just sitting here waiting so I’ll walk back through it and try to figure it out. I shot the buck broadside at 17 yards. My first reaction that I hit low and back in the guts. My heart sunk. I watched him run off. (I feel like he bucked). An hour later I got down and the arrow was red and had 0 smell to it. My hopes got up. Didn’t see much blood but there was blood. I followed blood similar to that for 100 yards this morning after a rain. He followed a deer trail. Then the blood stopped. I️ grid searched the area. Nothing. Now we wait. My question is. If I truly hit low and back, what makes the arrow covered in blood? Was he quartering and I caught the liver going out? There was no gut anywhere. I can’t imagine hitting the hind legs. That’s just crazy and I had a pass through. So idk. I’m racking my brain. It’s killing me. I can not believe this happened. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Blood wasn’t dark enough for liver but a pass threw is definitely good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I will be getting on to check things out this evening hoping for the best for you! I start my deercation on Saturday. Taking all of next week off work and will be hitting the deer woods hard! Going to start off by going to the Quincy IL area for 3 or 4 days. Then will transition to north central Illinois to the Pontiac area or at home in the Bloomington area. I got decent bucks on camera at all the places so we will see what happens.
No good. We go back on blood but it was specks. Trailed across a picked bean field. It was erratic. Almost like he was feeding. I feel confident that it was a non lethal shot now Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, I got it done. Shot a great buck yesterday. He's a buck we call Sloth. I have a few trail cam pics - made it happen yesterday am. Not really sure how to score this deer.
Great looking buck! Congrats Neal. Hoping to get out Thursday evening and Friday Morning, as I'm missing this weekend (not my choice) But will be back out with the bow come Dec 1st when Gun Season is over in Michigan.
Congrats Neal!!! I'm working a 16 hour shift tomorrow but I'm off Saturday through Monday... Sent from my LG-H830 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
