I'm a nurse, and being a nurse I work with sick people all the time. I never get sick, because I've been exposed to so many things. Well, my fiancee is a nurse too. The difference is she works with babies (neonatal ICU). The bugs that attack babies are not bugs I'm exposed to, and therefore I don't have immunity to them. Needless to say, my wonderful fiancee brought home a bug. I've been sick for 3 days now and it sucks. When I cough, it hurts.... bad! My head feels like a balloon that's about to pop. I'm coughing up yellow.. (means virus generally) so there's nothing I can really do but take vitamin c. All this, and this week will probably be the best week of bowseason here. Great! I'll tough it out if I can, but I sure hope I feel better soon. Not even one of those cough suppressors (lol) can help me!
See, I don't get the being exposed to sickness thing (thought I do believe it to be true, it just doesn't seem to apply to me). I never really got sick UNTIL I became a teacher. Now I'm sick all of the time. At least one major bug or virus per school year.
