Well guys, I had an off night tonight. I'd like to hear some of your "first time" oop-ies.

    We'll start with mine...

First, the weather today is 45 degrees with 20 mph winds gusting up to 35. And a full moon. Well, back to Wednesday, my dad is doing a few things for me. First, he's going to Gander Mountain after work to pick me up a rattle call and a Doe in Estrus Buck Bomb for the rut. He comes home with the rattle call I wanted, and a Doe "P" Buck Bomb. At that point I don't want to waste my gas going to Gander, so I just say to heck with it. Second, he said he talked to the guy who got me into deer hunting. He suggested that I go out on Friday (today) because a front is coming through and it will be nice around 5:00. So I look at the weather and there is 2 hours to shoot after the front comes through, but the wind is out of the West. That means the wind is at my back. I say to heck with it again, and head out.

I drive out, get dressed, and spray down. Then, I pull out my trusty Buck Bomb. I spray my boots and start walking in. (Thanks dad for getting the wrong one, it pays off? :D) Once I get back by my stand, I check my feeder, and see they're going through the corn again, and then climb up in the stand. Then I pull my bow and backpack up.

I hang my backpack and then hang my bow. Pull out my cell phone to let my dad know that I'm up. I sh*t you not, I say:

    Time 4:44:

"I'm up, but I'll talk to you later, the weather is nice and I think things will get good fast."

At this point it is 4:45, and I put my phone away and stand up and start turning around for my backpack to get my binoculars and rangefinder and buck bomb out. That's when I see a buck (4-6 point) walking away. Watched him walk away, never had a good look at him. Didn't know a text message was so powerful!

5 minutes later, I see a doe walking out in the bean field, which I wish they would cut! It wonders around, and eventually I can't see it anymore.

So I get situated, and sit back down, grab my bow of the hook, and put it on my lap. Then about 5, I hear walking, and look behind me to my left to see a HUGE doe run in. But it was behind me and off to the right too quickly to get ready to take a shot. But it stood behind me for 5 minutes or so before walking off.

After that, I spray 3 burst with the buck bomb.

About 30 minutes later, I hear walking. Constantly. Ten minutes go by with out seeing anything. But, then, a doe steps out from behind a huge thicket, broadside. 20 yards. I've ranged it 100000000000 times... I tilt my bow up, draw back, an inch away from full draw, and THUNK! My arrow nock came off of the arrow! What the heck! So that doe snorts and starts walking away, when another doe steps out! The first one is now at 35 yards, and the second one is at 20. I wait for a good time to draw back, and about 10 minutes later I get a second chance!

Doe 1 is looking away from me, and doe 2 is broadside at 25 yards with it's head it the beans. SO I try to draw again. I feel the let off kicking in, and THUNK! My arrow seperated from the nock again. They look around and move to 40 yards. Then I figure out that when my bow is on my lap, I hold the grip with 3 fingers and my thumb. Then with my pointer finger, I hold the arrow onto the little gizmo that holds the arrow while the fall away is down. Well, when I draw back, I kept my finger there, putting force on the arrow in front of the arrow rest. That bends the arrow and pops it off. So I'm mad at this point, trying to keep my hopes up.

But never see anything the rest of the night. All though I did here some running around no where to be seen.

Never again will I draw my bow with my finger on the arrow. I WILL ALWAYS CHECK THAT! UGH!

The buck bomb did add some great cover scent though, for three of the five deer were directly downwind from me. Great product.

Lets start this off with it was 1998 and my 2nd year bow hunting. In 97 i shot a BB(antlerless Tag) I didn't know it was a BB any way. In 1998 I am in my climber stand early the first wwk of the Season. its still dark and i'm waiting for daylight to come when i figure what the heck I'll call (grunt call), mean while its still dark. So i call, and just as i go to slowly take the call out of my mouth and slide it down my jacket to my pocket i see this outline of a buck look up at me. I'm BUSTED, he trots off. didn't see another deer that day.

The next Day i go back to the same location move to another tree 5 yards back, and i wait a little longer before i grunt to whoever. its now just about daylight and i look up and see 2 bucks coming my way. I tell my self the first buck that walks in the one opening i'm killing it and right i say this to myself the one buck walks into it and i make a 22 yard heart shot and the buck goes 35 yards and drops. i heard him fall, after a few minutes i can't wait i go over and find the arrow and follow the blood trail to the down buck. Ive been hooked ever since!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

side note : Apple trees everywhere around me!!!!!!!

Saw an nice 8 point! Walked 15 yards from my ground blind, wrong spot at the right time... I'll be over there next Saturday. I'm doing an all day hunt.
