I've been using my compound bow for years now. I'm shooting at 60lb's. I would really like to go back to the way things used to be done. Whats a good bow to get me started? As well as other equipment?

Samick do a great affordable range of Longbows and Recurves , also the Bear Montana is a great Longbow . Which were you thinking of shooting , Longbow or Recurve ?

I bought Girlfriend a Samick Volcano , its a great looking bow and shoots real sweet , also look at the Samick Sage , which is another great bow and comes in takedown form . So if needed , you buy higher # limbs when you upgrade . You could shop around on eBay and tradgang for a used bear Kodiak or Grizzly :) . If you shoot 60# Compound , I'd start around a 40#-45# draw weight and your draw length will shorten about an inch .

I agree with the Bear Grizzly, it's a great bow for the price. I still shoot a 45# recurve and love it. It will make your draw to where you can do it easily and swiftly in any position. I'm currently shooting a Bear Supermag 48 @ 45#. Some people say it's not forgiving and such, but I can accurately engage a target at 30 yards, although I wouldn't feel comfortable making a clean kill shot past 25. I would say go to your nearest store and shoot some and get a good feel for it and DON'T buy on the first visit. Play around with em and get that good feeling from the bow which I'm sure you're familiar with. GOOD LUCK and have fun!

NOTE: you will get addicted. ;)

What's your price range? If you are trying to get into traditional archery, I've seen good long bows start at around $200.

Traditional Archery is a little different. It brings together a whole different crowd. They best thing about it is you need to shoot all year to keep your skills up. A friend makes custom longbows. You may want to check out his site at hitmanlongbows.com he is a nice guy and answers any question you may have.

Yeah, dont worry about what bow, get one and start shooting! This first bow will not be your only bow you buy, trust me on that one! I started out on a Bear Montana Longbow, 50#, great shooting bow, I would put it up against any $1000 bow any day! Taught myself to shoot with it, killed my first trad deer with it! There is nothing like walking in the woods with a Longbow in hand!
