I started bow hunting 2 years ago and became instantly addicted. At the time I was living in Duluth, MN. I didn't have much time to hunt, but there were plenty of sporting goods and archery shops to use for all my tune-up and shooting needs. However, last spring I moved further North to Ely, MN (19 mi from Canadian border). So this season I've been fortunate to hunt 3 to 4 nights a week which is awesome! The down side is that my closest shop is now 60+ miles away, so thinking I'm going to try and do it myself. Any suggestions for me, as far as the best books and tools to start with for tuning & maintenance of my bow, and building my own arrows? This rookie could use some guidance! FYI, I'm shooting a Mathews Drenalin, and so does my wife.
When you start making your own arrows buy a Bitzenburger fletching jig. It is the best and will last a lifetime.
For building arrows this is a very good starting point: GATEWAY "BUILDING THE PERFECT ARROW" DVD There are also some bow tuning dvd's although I do not have any experience with these. Bow tuning
