My girlfriend is wanting to get into the sport of bowhunting and competition shooting. I need any recomendations for bows for her to start out on and this stat requires at least a 45 pound draw weight. Thanks guys.

take a look at just about everything. almost every bow out today is of good to excellent quality. and let her find the one that fits her, and feels comfortable to her.

you'll get a different opinion for every make & model on the market, to be honest.

Some people swear by matthews because its shiney.

Others, like me, swear by PSE because its the best damn bow ever made :tu:

But in all seriousness - you should do what I did with my wife: Take her to the archery shop, let her look at the bows, and let her pick the bow SHE likes.

Don't buy a bow based on functionality alone for your wife...if she's ANYTHING like my wife (and most wives are in this regard) its more about cosmetics and personality than functionality and reputation.

Thats not a knock of my wife or yours :D Just an observation I made.

After my wife shot her bow for a while, she began to ask questions about form and function - thats when I sold her on buying a bow in the same regard I would.

If i had forced my original bow decision on her, she would not have enjoyed shooting it nearly as much and may have given up.

...thats just my opinion based on my circumstances though :) Just offering it as some advice.

Good Advice above! Let her shoot all she can get her hands on.

The best thing is to not get in a hurry, just keep letting her shoot bows and one will eventually pick her.

The worst mistake most Newb's make and many veterans as well is to buy the 1st bow they shoot on impulse without really shooting other bows. I've seen the regret many times! :)

Also make sure she gets properly fitted and make sure the bow she chooses has easy draw length adjustments to dial it in even more should she need to.
