I decided this spring to try my hand at building some turkey calls. I've always loved working with wood so being a hunter this seemed to be a natural progression for me. Here's a sample of what I've been doing. What do you all think?

Next I'm on to longbows and grip side plates ;)

Thanks guys! I'm just having fun making them. I'm working on a batch right now and almost got them done.

I was recently asked to make one for an upcoming disabled veteran hunt that another site is hosting. I'm so honored to be able to be part of something so worthwhile ;)

Nice! Ya know those booths at expos with homemade calls? They are always better then the commercial brands like Primos and Flextone. Hope yours are the same:tu:

Here's a little guy I called in with a couple of the first calls I built.

I actually had a very fun turkey season. I hunted with the bow right up until the last day I could get out. Called in birds every single time I went but they either stayed out of bow range or just wouldn't stand still. That last time I said heck with it and grabbed the 10 ga! Lol! Was pretty cool killing a bird that I called in with calls I built :)

No doubt! I do have my favorite production calls but I don't see them going to woods any time in the near future ;)

    Very cool.

That has to be so rewarding to call in a turkey with a call you made yourself.

beautiful. I like the brass screws much better. Can you get the brass in an allen head or even even with a snap cover and you wouldn't even see the screw?

    Do you sell them?

    Thanks!

They sound great. I spent a good deal of time playing with different woods to see what works the best. I can make them sound high and clean right down to course and nasally depending on the wood combination.

Yep i sell them. I don't build a ton of them but I do sell a few dozen here and there. I currently have a dozen and a half of them 3/4 of the way done. Just need to finish them up. I kinda put them on the back burner until after hunting seasons  Once I do get them finished I'll put a few up for sale :)

Yeah I think the brass looks nicer, I haven't found any in allen head though. Now with the hiding of the screw you have given me an idea to play around with. I like the thought of that :tu:
