Oh and just got this guy on cam. No clue who he is or where he came from...but dont mind him showin up!
Skeeterz had me tonight. Walked in the the spot I was planning on sitting and hundreds attacked me so after 5 min I left and went back to the truck. Drove around until 7 and then walked in to check 2 cams and see if I could see any deer. There were 5 does/fawns on the bean field we cut last night and I was trying to stick around but the mosquitos got to me bad again so I went back to the truck and got on top of the grain bin to watch them. 2 more deer showed up not sure what they were one looked like a small buck. Nothing new on cam. Almost all night time movement.
sounds like you need to get yourself a thermacell! Here in FL id have caught malaria already if i didnt use mine haha..they r ruthless. In other news...chalked up a skunk tonight, thought after the overnight and into the day rainstorm we had go through the deer would be up on there feet once it cleared out. While i waited for it to do so i moved a stand, and as i was clearing a lane down on the ground, i found out the painful way that i had gotten too close to an underground yellow jacket nest. Got popped about 10 times....no fun
The wait is killing me. Got my clothes all washed and put into my scent free tub with a few added fresh earth wafers thrown in. Took the new climber out and practiced with it and have been shooting about everyday. Season can not come soon enough
Final cmaera check coming Saturday. Been a few week since I checked cameras - should be some good photos and footage! Will be really interesting to see what we are working with!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAANG! Thats rough! Good luck to everyone on opening day. i have a couple photos of young bucks sparring and had a fresh scrape on one of my food plots last night when i walked in that wasnt there the day before. But im almost positive its from one of the young bucks i have frequenting the area. But, just incase, i sprayed it with some buck urine to get the attention of the originator haha.
Got my failed attempt at a plot almost cut today before it rained I have probably 30-45 minutes left in it before I'm done cutting it
finally got some "cold" weather down here in FL...and by cold i mean lows in the mid 60s and highs in the mids 70s...Heading back out tomorrow morning hoping for some luck!
another uneventful morning here. Foggy/mist all morning. pulled cards after the hunt and found 5 rubs within a 50yd radius of one of my mineral sites and the buck is very much a regular on cam during daylight and by far the most killable (right now anyways) buck on the hitlist thus far. I have gotten pics of him within 50yds of two different stands that are a couple hundred yards away, so hopefully i will catch up with him shortly.
How many tags do you have pin em? Opening day (wednesday)-weeekend is shaping up to look pretty good. Have a big cold front moving through wed/thursday with a temp change from 76 to 60 degree highs. Hopefully put a doe down right away to get us on the board.
Here in Florida....there are no tags. by the law i could kill 2 bucks everyday for the entire season...and be legal. It is by far the dumbest thing ive ever heard of in regards to game management...and its largely to blame (in my opinion) for a lack of quality bucks in the state. Im pretty frustrated with Florida honestly, and the club i hunt with doesnt make it any better, just about ANYONE you talk to see no issue killing anything and EVERYTHING that walks by, and poaching deer is talked about as if it were a legal means of taking game (not by club members, but locals). I had one guy that works on the farm i hunt tell me he wouldve shot this one buck (the buck i call Tilt, pictured in above post) one day but "my old lady wouldnt let me shoot him, i already had the 30-06 out the window and him in the crosshairs....and this was during bow season" rant over haha. im just trying to make due and bide my time til i take my 18day trip to VA to get after some true monsters! And then hit Alabama in January on a friends property where they have strictly managed the deer for about 12years or so now.
