We have skunk cabbage at camp. The nature of this is to actually melt the spring snows to emerge. First choice of waking up food for the bear. They actually produce an anal plug when going into hibernation and the chemicals in skunk cabbage loosens this. Wish NY had spring bear hunting.
Lol...bear and deer are the only animals that eat it usually. Deer only when it just breaks ground. Google it it's actually an interesting plant. Likes the wet area at camp.
Fletch your ability to dial up that edgy sarcasm must be appreciated and respected. For that I say hail fletch, pop a top and appreciate.
There are better links to the bear feeding on them. They are actually a rather pretty plant. The leaves are glossy almost waxy and a pretty color green. To be honest I've walked through them many times and they don't smell all that bad...though I didn't stomp through them. I see spring turkey in them as well in fact that has been my best hunting at our camp for turkey. I read that Canada geese like them as well. Native americans and settlers routinely harvested them for medicine. Some today still use it. Though to ingest, it must be cooked and drained several times. They also crushed and sniffed it..to relieve headaches. Rather high in magnesium and potassium if I recall.
And the ass- kissing continues Naw Fletch, I kill em, don't cuddle with em. Since this a " bear thread", and you chimed in, ever killed one?? For God's sake guys, you pound each other's " like" button, if you don't like what I have too say, why not hit the " dislike" button?? This is a hunting forum, not facebook OND, here in the spring, bear will gorge on dandilion.
That got me thinking..dandelions every where here at home. I seriously can't say I've ever noticed a single one at camp. Not even where we mow. Come to think on it no burdock or Canadian thistle either. Mullin not there ...hhhmmm
Well, I noticed a little while back that you jumped on a new guy that was posting about Cape Buffalo. So, apparently you have killed one?
Can we "bear" this thread? BTW, thought this was interesting. I am an Indian, American Indian. I prefer 'American Indian' (because) anyone born in the western hemisphere is a native American. - Russell Means, Republic of Lakotah (Activist, actor 1939-2012)
I " jumped" him about a ( first) post and showing a YouTube video! Yanno, those kind that fish for " likes". Sota must not have read your post yet?, No " like" yet. Oh, and I DID oppologize to that fella you mentioned
Thank goodness that you are available to police our new members. So glad you apologized to him. That should make it all better for sure.
