We have skunk cabbage at camp. The nature of this is to actually melt the spring snows to emerge. First choice of waking up food for the bear. They actually produce an anal plug when going into hibernation and the chemicals in skunk cabbage loosens this.
Wish NY had spring bear hunting.

Lol...bear and deer are the only animals that eat it usually. Deer only when it just breaks ground. Google it it's actually an interesting plant. Likes the wet area at camp.

There are better links to the bear feeding on them. They are actually a rather pretty plant. The leaves are glossy almost waxy and a pretty color green. To be honest I've walked through them many times and they don't smell all that bad...though I didn't stomp through them.
I see spring turkey in them as well in fact that has been my best hunting at our camp for turkey. I read that Canada geese like them as well. Native americans and settlers routinely harvested them for medicine. Some today still use it. Though to ingest, it must be cooked and drained several times. They also crushed and sniffed it..to relieve headaches. Rather high in magnesium and potassium if I recall.

This is a hunting forum, not facebook:poke:

Well, I noticed a little while back that you jumped on a new guy that was posting about Cape Buffalo. So, apparently you have killed one?
