So this morning I went out on the first morning hunt of the year and we had a bunch of gobblers come in, In the mist of this all I spotted a bearded hen! What would you guys do? Shoot or pass?
I was bow hunting and I went ahead and passed because I though there was a Tom headed my way. But they got to about 80 yards and the neighbor spooked them on a tractor
I was seeing 3 bearded hens all fall and late winter. All had a 7" or longer beard. If one gives me a chance it will get a Rage !!!
I don't recall where I read it, but there is the thought out there that bearded hens are one of the reasons you see toms with multiple beards.
I would pass! I had a hen in my yards that had three beards on it! I am starting to see more and more of them!
Agree not as uncommon as most think. I had one on camera all last fall and through winter before I pulled that camera. Though it's the first one I've ever seen in person here on the farms.
You kansas boys can come up and shoot one any time you want lol. Seemed like every hen I had in range last year had a rope on her. They are shorter and skinny, I dont know if you will find one with a nice thick rope
See them quit a bit here, I've taken a few as well. My first turkey when I was 8 years old was a bearded hen. Seen one last year that came running in to my call and she had a swingin beard..had I not been after a specific bird, I'd of dropped her.
