So I spent the last week on Drummond Island, MI bowhunting...GREAT TIME. Although the weather was very uncooperative, it was still a great experience (never had a bad one). I set up a tree stand in a natural funnel of trees in a valley connecting two seperate wooded areas. This spot has been very productive in the past, and I consider it my favorite spot on the island. This year was a little different though....no bucks. To my left is a bedding area which I try to stay away from, but I spent 4 days watching deer to my left...never coming in.

On Friday I decided to leave the stand and go "old school" and ground hunt in some brush just outside the possible bedding area. Since this was the last day of my hunt I shot a nice sized older doe that I watched for days. I hit her at 6:35 pm and watched her fall not 20 yds from the kill zone. I waited about 40 minutes and decided to track....I pushed her. When she jumped I noticed I hit the liver, so I decided to let her sit a couple hours.

At 11:45pm I tracked my deer to find it buried under a pile of leaves with no legs, exposed ribs, guts spread out, and a big pile of bear dung about 2 LFT away.

Although I was bummed, I guess it makes a good story...gotta love hunting.

Yup,heard of that happening before both by bears and bobcats. I'm originally from the U.P. (spent 42 years there and just recently moved here to the Northern Lower) A buddy's dad shot a doe and they didn't find it until the next day and it was eaten upon and covered up with pine needles. They salvaged what meat they could and recovered the body, went back to camp and got some traps and set three around the remains. The next morning he had a 42# bobcat waiting for him.
