most older bears are nocturnal. i know a way around that if you can use bait.
    can you use bait?

I'd like to hear your way around it.

if you have a bait set up that you keep stocked for a long time and the big bear only comes in after dark,
take the food away and place a bag of bear scat (from a different area) at the bait site put more bait out the next afternoon and wait, the bear should come earlier to ensure the strange bear doesn't get his supper again.

Yep, if you're using large amounts of bait, it would be a tactic to use for sure. I only bait with 4 gallons a day and bait every day. Then again, I do it for a living and am close to my baits. (farthest being 17 miles.)

In Georgia, if it'd been a DRY year, you could potentially focus on water, but I hear it's been a little wet in those mountains down there this past year. I know very little about bear hunting, but I know that my "elk wallow" last year got "rolled" by a HUGE Cinnamon Phase boar, and believe me when he rolled on his back in the mud, he was definitely a BOAR, that was probably easily over 400#. In a dry area, I found LOTS of bear scat, and in the ONLY wallow I found for a few miles of hiking, the elk were devoid, but the bear was still there. Sure wish I'd taken the advice of many guys I'd talked to and tried to get a bear tag...... Lesson learned, HINDSIGHT is ALWAYS 20/20!!!! :poke:
