So jealous! I want to go on a bear hunt so terribly bad.

I hunted in Ontario the week of labor day 2010. Took two thermacells and never used them. Didn't have any mosquitos bother me. Maybe you will get lucky also. I'd take a thermocell just in case though.

I asked yesterday if I would need a bug-suit and Thermacells and they said that I would likely not see a mosquito or blackfly. I am hunting the last week of September and they said the bugs are normally non-existent by that late in the season. He said he would let us know the "bug-report" shortly before we take off. lol

I did this last year. Thermocell was a must, or you got carried away. I'm not a fan of bug spray while hunting and if its warm you can sit in a short sleeve shirt and not get bit. bring a trail cam to see when the bears are hitting if you have a way to check pics. I had to change it up a little. Bears were coming in early in the day. I used a dew rag/bandana to cover my head for the flys and skitos while walking. Ive also heard that it may take a day or 2 for the bears to get used to your scent compared to the guides while refilling your bait. The guys in my camp said to place a shirt on your stand while your gone and they will get used to it faster, however I didnt do that. Depending on which type of bait, I smeared some on the tree and that held my bear in place for my shot. Others had the bear come in and take the bait and run before they got a shot. Just some ideas. Have a blast. Fishing was just as good as the hunt for me.

Congrats!! I sure miss going bear hunting!! Scent Shield "No Stinkin Bugs" unscented bug spray. Thermacells are good for stand hunting like that too, just have to be careful where you place it so it doesn't end up on the ground.

They will be running cameras on all the baits and guarantee three active baits per hunter. We will be the only 4 hunters in camp. The rest of the people in camp will be fishing only.
