Some guides I know just use dog food, used oil and powdered sugar but I saw more bears on the beaver, nuts, oats and gummy bears :p
I know a lot of people in Minnesota use dog food and used oil too. I am setting baits on public ground with quite a bit of pressure. Most of the people I talked to or heard talking were not getting much action on their baits. If you give them the best food and a big variety you get the bears. It is more work but like most things in hunting you get out what you put in.
