I've had a trail cam setup on a real hot trail for the last few months, been getting pictures of does just about every AM coming through. I was in stand about 6:25am this morning. A little after daylight I had a small 4 pt come out and walk right underneath me, this was my first deer sighting on stand for the new season and it really got my heart pumping. He literally walked right underneath me, caught wind, and ended up looking right up at me in the tree. (I'm about 18ft up). I was kind of bummed after I got busted, but it was very early and I planned to sit until around 11:00am. A little after 9:00am I look to my left and sure enough 20 yards away 3 does snuck in on me. I grabbed my bow as quick as I could, set my pin on the lead doe, and let her have it. She was slightly quartering towards me, I smacked her real good in the shoulder and watched my arrow burry its way half way into her. She ended up breaking my arrow off about 15 yards away from where I shot her. I found her piled up about 50yards away. I blew right through her front right shoulder and the rage 2 blade put a nice slice right through her heart. I have never shot a deer this early in the season (Early Anterless Hunt runs from the 16-20th) She appears to be shedding her summer coat.
Congrats man!! With a bow its just as hard to shoot a mature doe as big ol' buck. So in my mind you got yourself a trophy right there. Down in Bama our season doesn't start till Oct. 15th and i am foaming at the mouth ready for it to get here.
