Well after a long night and a long day I finaly have something to show for it.

The story starts yesterday afternoon when I got out of work late. I got done at 4:15 so I decided to sneak into one of my close stands and sit for the evening. At 5:30 I got a text from my wife that she had a buck coming in and she wanted to shoot it. I texted her "shoot". As I was going to put my phone back into my coat pocket I looked down. There he stood. He was able to sneak in from behind me and not make a noise. The wind was also blowing pretty good. Anyway as he started to walk past me I stood up and drew in one motion. He walked behind a pine tree and as he stepped out of the other side I stopped him and let the arrow fly. he was about 13 yards from the base of my tree broadside and quartering away. I watched him run and lost sight of him about 70 yards away. I felt like the shot was low so I decided to let the deer lay over night.

My night was a long one as you all seen on my post last night. Not a whole lot of sleep.

At daybreak I couldnt wait anymore. I was there before I could see in the woods. I followed his blood trail up to the spot that I seen him last. And there in a pile was what was left of a gut pile. I couldnt believe it. Someone had gutted and taken my deer! Of cousre I had a whole bunch of emotions rolling through. After I collected my thoughts I deecided to follow the drag. I was able to follow it to the backyard of one of the neighbors.

I then got in my truck and drove home to decide what I wanted to do. After about an hour I decided that I was going to call him and see what had happed. He didnt answer so I left him a message on his home and his cell phone. Now all thats left to do is wait.

I waited all afternoon and by that point I figured that the deer was all but a memory. At around 2:00pm the guy calls me back. He had said that his son took the deer and after letting it lay for a couple of hours. Long story short here. He told me to come over and get my deer.

Another roller coaster of emotions started running through me.

When I got there I found the deer in his garage skinned and the loins missing. Head was cut off. (That is why the pics have no deer body. :( )

Anyway... After a long wait here he is.

Oh and by the way my wife did shoot her buck. A little fork. But I was happy for her. It was her second deer with a bow.

Congrats on the deer. You may have lost the loins, but at least everything else was ok. You can always buy another cape. Silly that the kid wouldn't call you, if it was found on your property, to see if you had shot it. Way to follow the trail, take some time, and be calm about it all.

Nice work! Weird story. Haven't heard of that one before. I would worry about Coyotes getting my deer over night, but didn't realize this would happen. If I found a dead deer I wouldn't be inclined to take the meat not knowing how long it had been there.

I would be wondering if the loins were taken out before or after they got the message. At least he called you back.
