I had another thread for the worst feeling in the world on this deer and felt he deserves a new one. Well, patience paid off and the wait was worth it. After we jumped him, he didn't go much more than 60 yards and then circled back up towards his bed and expired shortly after. I'm beyond thrilled and grateful to find this buck, my best PA bow buck to date. Crazy how you go from the lowest low to the highest high. Not proud of the shot at all, but darn proud to persevere and do the right thing to find him. The sleepless night was worth it.
Good news! Glad you found him. And congrats on the personal best! Also I'm curious to what you hit? Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
The conclusion we all were hoping for you man!! Good job not pushing it and enduring the tough night.
Yeah Muzz!!! Way to go on a great buck! I knew you’d get him! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Thanks fellas. As for those asking about shot location, it was plain ol' guts. Nothing more to really say other than the shot was awful. It entered right behind last rib, height wasn't terrible. I have idea on any blood, etc as I backed out immediately and then we dealt with 4" of snow in the afternoon. Nontheless, I"m stoked he's hanging in the garage and his mount will look awesome on my wall.
Great outcome. So many shoulda/woulda/coulda come into play when it comes to hunting. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Congrats!
Dont know about weight. I'd venture to say somewhere in the 200-225 live weight. That seems average for this caliber of deer in PA. They're mountain deer... they go up and down mountains every day and sometimes during the rut a dozen times by noon... lol I didn't look real in depth at the cuts... the smell wasn't great so I wanted to make short work of it and get him the heck out of there... lol.
Was this on the private you been hunting or is this from public? I know you said you were going all public this year.
This was private I have hunted for years. I stayed out of there for most of the season. I hunted it twice in early season on a quick evening sit and told myself i'd hold off and sit it a bit during the rut. I saw this buck Saturday at 75 yards and felt he was a shooter. Was too hard to walk away from him at that point... lol. I've also been taking my son on this property a bit as its his first year bow hunting and there was so much buck activity in this area from Halloween on that it was hard to ignore it.
