Who are you guys picking? It fires up tomorrow. I'll make a couple unoriginal predictions of KVD and Aaron Martens doing well. I've always been curious about why the Super Bowl of bass fishing is held at the beginning of the year when the fishing is relatively tough.
I'm going with Travis Loyd. He seems to have a lot of free time now for practice. It could be his year!
I don't think the fishing will be that tough, I'm guessing there will be 25+lb bags every day and we will see at least one 30lb bag. My best guess is Randy Howell, Edwin Evers, KVD, or Brandon Palaniuk will win.
It used to be after the season and now it kicks it off. While the fishing can be tough this time of year, don't be surprised if Classic weight records fall this year. I will go with KVD with a rattle bait. Don't count out local Swindle. My dark horse pick is David Walker.
I'm rooting for Ish! Have met him many times and always enjoy talking to him. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
I am glad that you posted this because it reminded me to go set the DVR to record the entire weekend!
They used to have it in late summer and there were plenty of hot nasty weekends with low bag limits. It can be tough anytime of the year. I like the change to the beginning personally. Hey it works for Nascar!
This is going to sound cheesy, but when I was in my teens and early 20's I dreamed of fishing in big fishing tournaments and the Classic. Bass fishing was my first love and obsession in the outdoors.
Oddly enough, it was mine as well. I read more Bass/fishing magazines than hunting and watched it every Saturday on ESPN when ESPN still had outdoor programming. We just don't live in an area with an overabundance of still water fishing.
Bass fishing is not very popular in my neck of the woods. Walleyes are king up here. I like to fish but I guess I have never gotten into watching others do it.
If you have those dreams, pursue them. You only live once. For about a 10 year period of my life I was a fishing machine, yet I never followed through with fishing any tournaments. I wish I would have tried it out.
I wish I could take back the years of competitive archery and put them into tournament fishing................
I played the fishing tournament game the last 2 years. Not semi pro by any means, just club tourneys, and can say it's not for me. We did pretty good and cashed a top 3 in 80% of our tournaments, but how fun is it to sit there with a shakeyhead on the Illinois River hoping a 12" bass bites? I'd rather kick back and fish lakes when I want. Maybe one day if I have more free time I'll get back in it. I don't know who will win, but a jerkbait lure is my guess.
