BPS is opening a new store in Altoona, Iowa. They're holding a job fair to hire 300 personnel. I thought about it and decided if they could match what I'm making now, it would be like being a kid and working in a candy store. I went w/resume & cover letter in hand. Got there at 11:00 this AM (had a meeting with the VA first) and the place was pretty much full. I filled out the paperwork and was told it would be about 1 hour wait. People kept pouring in. After 15 minutes waiting, they were telling people it would be about 1 1/2 hour wait. After 30 minutes, there wasn't an empty seat in the place. I finally got called back and while going through the pleasantries, the rep told me they had 1500 applications yesterday and were on track for 2000 applications today. Was told that if they decided to hire me, I would hear back w/i 2 weeks. Not getting my hopes up for this job. Afterwards, I stopped by the Sportsmans Warehouse not too far from there and it was like walking into a ghost town. When BPS opens up, SW won't stand a chance of surviving.

I wish they would open a Bass Pro in my town. :smash: We have a Sportsmans Warehouse but the closest Bass Pro is 2 hours away. :bash: :bash: There is one 2 hours north in Knoxville and 2 hours south in Atlanta, but not one in Chattanooga! WHY!! Please come to Chattanooga!!!! :violin: Sorry for the rant...I'm done now. :d

Personally, for me... bass pro shops is a joke in comparison to Sportsmans for any type of specialized hunting product. Bass Pro stocks stuff that is the most popular and best selling. I love Sportsman's, and their staff is WAAAAY more knowledgeable when it comes to working on your equipment. All this is IMO of course, and my experience in both Texas and Oklahoma, other than that I don't know.

However, I do have several friends that work at BP and absolutely LOVE it! IV, I wish you the best in the hiring.

BP sucks, at least the one in Balt does. Always out of stock and a bunch of dumbass people working there that will give piss poor advice or I should say just plain wrong advice. Have stood by and heard it many times. Only on a last resort will I walk in that place and useually come out empty handed as they won't have what I need.

That's the way it is here with our SW. They are never stocked up and the workers are morons. I've always gotten great service at the BPS in Knoxville but 2 hrs is quite the drive to go to a store.

I heard a department supervisor telling two of his employees that he had to cut their hours and he was getting an unpaid day off too. An employee at the store across the street from SW said word is SW is in financial troubles.... Our SW was nice when it first opened, then they opened a Scheels across town and it hurt their sales. Now with BP coming in, won't be suprised if they close this SW down.

Hey Iowa-Vet, SW is in bankruptcy and closing a bunch of its stores. The one here does well because the only other thing is a sporting goods store that only stocks seasonally. I'm sure if BPS or Cabela's dropped a store in Chattanooga then this SW would be out of biz in 6 months.

X2, the Cabela's here is in Crook County and has a 10% tax rate on purchases! The Bass Pro is alright but I get better prices from a little bowshop up the road or will get stuff through this site before going to the three above. I do go to the Cabela's because I get 400-600 bucks in free gift cards through work.

You are correct and yet i still find myself there atleast twice a month. It is nice to work within 10 minutes of a BP though when you're in a pinch.

Well I can tell you if it is anything like Cabelas look at about 9.00 a hour unless you are a specialist/supervisor in some area. Cabelas I beleive starts all employees at 9.00 a hour thats part time or full time.

Don't know. They said they'd notify the people they wanted to hire w/i 2 weeks. It's been one week now. Don't have my hopes up though.
