I just bought Gander mountain for 2.8 billion and thought I got a decent deal...
I guess it's time to put Bass Pro and Cabelas out of business with some real competition.

It is a quote from The Princess Bride. Summarizes my thoughts on Bass Pro Shop/Cabelas deal; bow down to more corporate monopolies. Also summaries my thoughts about the upcoming election.

One thing that struck me though. Cabelas was a publicly traded company and was beholden to the shareholders to maintain a certain level of profitability. Bass Pro Shops is a privately held company. There's a lot to be said about the benefits of working with and doing business with a privately held company.

I work for a pretty large privately held company and it is ran way better than any corporation I've worked for.

Just got a .45 from Gander a few weeks ago, and a .44 from Cabela's and a .308 from sportsman's. I just can't bring myself to buy stuff from Bass Pro because of all their gimmick stuff. Just sell me what you are going to sell me and let's move on with this transaction, I don't want to buy a ground blind because I bought some broadheads... let me make my purchase and go on.... ( rant over) lol

I buy from all four as well as local outfitters. It's about what you are looking for at a price point you want. Hopefully pricing will remain competitive or it drive business back to the locals. Could be a good thing. I do like a good deal with free shipping.

This is weird news. There are already 2 BP's in the metro along with one Cabela's with another Cabela's on the way.

Just a thought, maybe Cabela's saw the high in the outdoor market and decided to get out while our public lands are a plenty. Who knows what the next 5-10 years will bring.

In central Ohio, the new Field & Stream stores are killing them both.
