Hi, I am new to crossbows and have a few basic questions:
Scoppe mounts: are they weaver-Style? I want to use an old scope and want to know if the rings fit...
Trigger: what is an averange trigger pull weight and who has the best/smothest triggers?
how do you let the string down, while avoiding dry-fire?
trajectory: on which range do you sight in and how far does the bolt drop on the next 10, 20 yards?
do you use fixed blade, or mechanical broadheads?
what group-size can I expect on 40 yards with broadheads?
Do broadheads require tuning, line on a huntig-bow? Does changing the weight have a significant influence?

As you see - I am a complete rookie and appreciate any help, even on questions I did not think of, yet :D
    thanks,

I can try and answer some of your questions. I don't know the average trigger pull, but from what I've hear the new winchester crossbows and the Bowtech SZ350 and SZ380 have the best triggers. I sighted in at 20 yards, and rate of drop depends on speed/arrow weight...so to define it in general would be difficult. I use mechanical broadheads (Grim Reaper). Shoot them with my vertical setup and like them. I've not practiced out to 40 yards, because my shots are considerably cloer than that, so can't help you there. I did not have to change my setup at all....the Grim Reapers had the same POI as my field points. the impact of changing the weight of the head depends on how much you change it.

My Dad shoots a Barnett Wildcat C5. The scope has 5 lines. We sighted the second line in at 40 yrds. He was shooting 5 inch groups at 70 yrds last year. He only shoots at deer out to about 50 yrds tho. To let string off without dry firing, just keep an old bolt/arrow with you and shoot it into some sand/hay bale/target. We have found that shooting into the sand on creek bank works great.

There is one more bit of advice I can give you...call David at Wyvern Creations (603-659-0575). He's a legitimate expert, and can answer all of your questions. As far as crossbows go, you'll not find anyone more knowledgable

Scopes are typically multi-reticle, with three dots or three horizontal crosshairs.
