I'm thinking about shooting in my basement tonight after the kids go to bed, my wife gets home around 10:30 pm so I'll have a couple hours I haven't ranged from wall to wall to see what the exact distance is, but I'm guessing 19 ft, plus I have a stone fire place backstop so no worries about holes in the wall!! Is anyone else doing this????
I don't have a basement so I swung the other direction...I hung a stand at full height in my back yard this past weekend...[seriously]...Gonna shoot from a more natural hunt setting.
Absolutely. I built a stand and hung a full size bag target in mine. I have 14 yards. I haven't shot in the new house yet but shot nearly 1k arrows a week in my old houses basement when I was still competing years ago. Don't be discouraged by the short distance, it's a great place to learn how to shoot perfect shots and not have to focus on the score or outcome. My best indoor scores always came after a week of basement short range practice.
I shoot in my garage around 15' or so. I spent one winter in my garage concentrating on back tension and clean release and came out that spring on fire on the 3d range. Placed at every shoot I attended, until I burnt out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I shoot in my basement when I don't have time to go out and shoot. Its about 10 yards but that doesn't matter, its just to work on form and exercise. I set a bag target on a work bench and there is a block wall behind it.
I personally feel short practice like this is more important than long range practice. It builds confidence and a strong shot. One can also use programs like archers advantage to print out 5 spot targets with the size adjusted to 10 yards or less. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
This is what I started doing. I haven't shot this winter yet, but short distance practice is very beneficial especially for training shot execution. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I can shoot about 17 yards in my basement. Its nice for shooting in the winter and just working on form.
Pabowhunter, that is awesome. Nicely done. I just go outside and shoot(since I don't have a basement). Its cold and I bundle up just like I would be if I was hunting so I get to practice in hunting gear.
PaBowhunter - I'm curious..what is in the boxes to keep you from hitting the wall? Also...I like all the robin hoods on display.
Great setup PAbowhunter! I shoot in my basement all the time during the winter. I can only get to about 13 yards but far enough for practice!
I can shoot about 12 yards in my basement, shoot into a bag target, cant really practice distance shooting, but it works great for keeping your form and muscle memory in check, when its warm I shoot outside.
I don't have anything as a backstop. I don't let the kids shoot in the hohse so don't need one.. Sent from my BNTV600 using Tapatalk
I have scrap stretch wrap packed in tight in the boxes that my wife had gotten at the shipping dept where she works. I haven't had any issues with pass throughs but I don't just shoot into them because the arrows pull out hard.
heres mine its a perfect 20 yrds. i dont use a backstop. if i miss at 20 yrds then i deserve to break a arrow
My basement is finished with drywall and 60 feet wall to wall. I took the 24 inch deep metal shelving sections and set block targets on the shelves. Also I lean 3D targets against the shelves. Only had one yip in several years of shooting and that was with a PSE Evo, if you creeped that bow would take off. I must have creeped and I tried to catch it and my BT release went off and I rattled an arrow around the basement. Its a good thing I am pretty decent at fixing drywall and painting.
