Hey guys what’s your thoughts on both? I’m looking to get one of these apps real soon. I’ve used onX in the past and liked it but there’s a lot of talk on YouTube on BaseMap and just wanted to get your input. Thanks

I'm an onx user and I for one am considering switching to HuntStand. Just seems more feature rich and I noticed a couple of layers/tools that might be very helpful in my situation.

I love Huntstand and use the piss out of it. The only thing I think could be improved is some of the topo/contour maps. Outside of that, it's awesome.

Honestly, I've been messing with Huntstand (free version) and the limited topo maps they give are easier to read to me than onx. I still use caltopo on the computer a lot first, because their stuff is second to none in terms of detail level of contour/topo stuff. Onx is ok, but I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription in January and moving to Huntstand for winter/spring scouting to see how it goes.

I used OnX for a few years before moving over to Hunstand, and I honestly haven't missed it at all. The amount of features it has for the price, it blows OnX out of the water. Like any app or program, there are little annoyances I would love to change, but overall I really don't have any major complaints. Some of the recent UI updates they made are kick ass, and I love that it integrates with my Stealth/Muddy cell cams so I can check pics using Huntstand if I want to.

I have HuntStand, Onx and BaseMap. I also have Go hunt however I haven’t used it at all.

HuntStand sucks, despite the fact the even I get a free premium membership, I can’t tolerate it. It’s glitchy, freezes up constantly with an iPhone 13 and 15, it filled with stupid unnecessary features, like weapons lockers, pictures, stand reservations, idiotic trail cam setting and links, obstructive area graphics and list goes on. Total overly complicated junk.

BaseMap is simple, the most economical and glitch free. It’s not overly cluttered or complicated and is far an away the best value for what you get for a yearly multi/all state subscription.

OnX is the middle for me, we use them in conjunction with our farm manger, customer service wise they are fantastic setting up as custom account with multiport/person access. They are least economical unless you just getting access to one or three states. Glitches get fixed quickly and data is recoverable, C/S is fantastic and you can get a real person on the phone.

For me I would go with onX and if I was on a tighter budget basemap.

For the OP - they have some similar core features (public/private ownership, borders, weather, waypoints, offline maps, etc).

I'm frugle and basemap does 98% of what I need and is cheaper. It's the only version I pay the premium fee. The rest I use free versions.

Here are a few differentors of features I use across the different apps in my hunting app suite of tools:

    Spartan Forge has better ariels.

Onx and go Hunt better narrowing based on direction and elevation.

Basemap compass/distance tool useful for dropping a pin on a remote location ( bull across a valley, a lazy bugle you think is 150yds in that direction)

Onx had better marking of waypoints (pins and colors) and copying of coordinates.

    Windy app for prrvailing wind

Google earth for 3d and street views

Caltopo for particular gradients (I want to check steepness or find ridges that are 30-35 degrees)
