As a lifelong Giants fan, I'm on cloud 9.

The Beltran pickup was critical, and hopefully just what we need to boost the offense for another run at the WS. I can't see a team beating us in a 5 game series. Crazier things can happen! I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Rangers in the WS again, either. Or the Red Sox.

How's your team doing? I know there are some Cardinal fans on here. How pissed are you about your recent trades? lol

This Cardinal fan is pretty pissed off. Not that they traded Rasmus, but what they got in return. A free agent, a loogy, a geezer and a flop. The Cards GM should be canned.

Red Sox are doing well. They're atop the AL East for the time being, but not gaining too much ground. They're struggling to put runs on the board against sub-par teams, so that's concerning. They need to add at least one more pitcher, and gain a better closer (Bard is garbage).

This has been a dismal year for my Cubs. Thanks to our GM we're weighted down by a bunch of overpaid players locked into long-term deals who aren't producing. The few guys we picked up this year are doing just what they've always done, which is be mediocre. Matt Garza and Carlos Pena were never superstars, but we gave them big money to come in and continue putting up average numbers. Great.

I'm glad we dished Fukudome when we could, although we basically got nothing in return. A couple prospects? Great.

We dealt Sam Fuld in the Pena deal last year and the guy is on SportsCenter every other night for making some sort of ridiculous grab, while we pay Soriano more money than I'll see in my lifetime to drop balls on a regular basis.

    Ahhh...to be a Cubs fan.

The Twins are hurting. Every time they turn around someone else gets Injured. Most Injured team In the majors this year and yet their only 6 games out. Hell of a job Gardenhire has done so far.

Yeah goes to show you that spending a lot of money doesn't necessarily guarantee results. Perhaps you guys need to spend more money?:whip:

I actually really like the Rasmus deal. He was one of biggest cry babies I've seen in a long time. Between him and his dad bad mouthing the organization on Twitter, and him refusing to work on hitting with coaches, he had out stayed his welcome. He was requesting a trade last year, and in the end he finally got out. He has a lot of growing up to do before he will reach his potential, and he was not going to do that in St. Louis.

Jon Jay was slowly winning the starting job in CF anyways, and he gives them an upgrade defensively, and he has a pretty good bat. It's not like Rasmus was hitting the cover off the ball this year.

With Berkman, Pujols, and Carpenter all question marks after this year, the front office is going for it. Edwin Jackson gives them a good #3 starter, while allowing McClellan to go back to the bullpen where he belongs. Dotel adds experience to a shaky pen, and Rzepczynski gives them the left specialist that they have been lacky all year. Patterson is a good #4 OF who can spell Berkman down the stretch.

The last move with Furcal doesn't look good on paper since he hasn't hit this season, but with Punto's injury problems and Theriot's lack of defense, the team needed help up in the middle. A pitching staff that makes it's living on groundballs can't have those errors behind them.

Overall they are a better team this year.

Agreed! I think we did pretty well with the Rasmus deal. I really think Rasmus was a disease in the clubhouse. We all know what kind of player Furcal has the potential to be. IMO, this has been the best moves the Cardinals have made in years.

Good post. I agree that Rasmus needed to go and it definitely helped our pen out for the time being. Hopefully Furcal can stay healthy and start putting up the numbers he used to.

I agree that he needed to go and would never hit his true potential under La Russa. Just seemed to me that a young starter should have been included in the deal. Makes the team better this year but they will have little to show for it down the road IMO. Rzepczynski could be a keeper, but a bullpen arm for a cost controlled, supposed 5 tool player, thats unacceptable to me. I love the Furcal trade, though.

I'm not a big baseball fan, but I do follow my beloved Tigers. They haven't been playing all that well since the break, but lucky for them, the Indians and White Sox are playing worse.

Interesting game between the Tigers and the Angels yesterday. I had never seen an error by the home team cheered so loudly. Sure was an interesting bottom of the 7th/top of the 8th.

Great game yesterday. The Tigers got in Weavers head and made for an exciting game. Verlander's fastball mixed with his change up.... a thing of beauty.
