Got busted by does Saturday morning. May have scented me but, I was wearing a baseball cap and somewhere I read that deer pick up slight movement of the bill.

    What's your experience or opinion?

Just like they can pick up the movement of your nose.

I wear one 90% of the time. Its camo'd on the bottom of the bill.

Is the cap camo? Do you wear face paint? If the deer scented you, it could have been a number of reasons. In case you didn't, make sure you spray EVERYTHING you wear to the tree. If you sweat walking in, spray down everything else once you get in the tree. I don't wear my hat to the tree. I carry a towel I washed in scent free detergent with me. After I get setup in the tree, I sit down and let my body cool down. I take a drink of water and wipe off any sweat with my towel. Then I put on my hat or camo mask.

I sprayed and had mask. Maybe just scented. About 90 yds away elevated

It wasn't your hat man. They either scented you, or saw you some other way like maybe they skylined you. Do you have good back cover?

Hat or no hat, they'll pick you out if you turn your head too quickly.

Move slowly, could've been a number of things though.

I've killed all of my deer wearing a cap.

It seems odd but deer can spot you more easily from a long way. When they're farther away being in a tree stand does not help very much, and they pick up the least amount of move

Your hat doesn't by chance have a propeller on top of it does it? That extra movement could have spooked the deer? (GRIN)

    A ball cap...No

A visor...Yes! Whole different beast there. Jay Gregory is the only guy I've seen pull it off.

Most mainstream camo patterns black out at distance and become a big dark, unatural glob at distance. This is what , in theory, makes open pattern camo more effective.

But movement will always be the deal breaker.
