I will keep the initial question simple: Is Under Armour worth the money? Secondly, I'm eying up the tactical leggings and regular coldgear mock t. Both have the anti-microbial material (or content I suppose), and they're on sale on Cabelas. Along with my cabelas bucks it will be a great deal. From the reviews, it seems the 2.0 and 3.0 coldgear is better for keeping you warm, but it doesn't have the anti-microbial. I've also been eying up the Cabelas MTP garments. They have the silver fiber X-Static which gets decent reviews, althouh many people complain about the sizes not being completely accurate. Almost every review for UA is great, but I know a few of you on here probably wear it, so I'm curious as to your thoughts on it. Also, as a side note. What do you guys recommend for a good fleece mid layer? Something I can wear as the second outermost layer in mid season, and as a mid layer during really cold weather?
Overpriced but worth it seems to be the general consensus. I suppose my question then is this. Are the "other" brands that are much cheaper just AS good.
I think in this area, you get what you pay for. I have both, Under Armour and the Sitka Traverse Shirt....to me it was worth every penny. As far as a layer for warmth, you will have many options, but I will be wearing the Kelvin Vest from Sitka Gear, which is the insulated vest. By doing this, I add no bulk to my arms making it better for me in the bow season. You have other brands, available as well. I would say you are on the right track. The key to staying warm is somewhat easy...layer and avoid cotton as cotton does not allow your skin to breath. Rather it will hold moisture in and eventually making you damp and then cold.
I tried the cheaper stuff once and it didnt work a well as the UA. So I also vote for overpriced but worth the money.
Its a hard leasson learned, but a valuable one. Plus you will notice the good things will last longer making it less expensive in the end...:D
UA is still overpriced in the UA Outlet Center where they advertise lower prices . I don't own any but might before season ends :p
i think in the end the price needs to be measured over how many seasons can be gotten out of your gear......i have cheaper under layers but they just aren't as good in the end - UA works well for me too.........
first off...get that stuff after the seasons over..you usually find great sales on stuff like scent lok, scent blocker and base layers and UA...i got a full UA cold gear outfit for 85 bucks..when normally 100 for top and 100 for bottoms....so just search and look...i wear a nice 1-4 parka that is awesome from cabelas....ice storm last year came in ....wind blowing ...it was freezing ....but not this guy..i looked like a little kid in this thing..curled in a ball..warm as hell..
I bought long sleeve and short sleeve UA shirts 4-5 years ago. They show little sign of wear and tear, and hardly any fading. I also have one brown cold gear base layer. They are excellent but are beginning to be way overpriced. I purchased mine for the bare minimum as they were test marketing them 5 years ago. These days however I would be hesitant to spend $40 on a UA long sleeve shirt. I am tempted to find a cheaper alternative since the advancement in that type of material has caught up to the market, possibly making a cheaper alternative just fine in terms of quality.
I'll be wearing my first UA garments in the next couple days.... I've got my UA Tactical Heat Gear black long-sleeve shirts and Tactical Heat Gear full face mask ready to go for my antelope trip over the next few days... Normally for base layers in the winter though I wear Scentblocker's Merino Wool.. I've got as much money tied up in that probably as I do my outerwear; could care less about the purported scent-blocking abilities, but the garments are freakin' NICE.
UA is great for how lightweight and comfortable it is. You get alot of performance out of a thin, comfortable garment that is perfect for layering. Like the guys have said, the price is high, but so is the return.
That may be a nice option for my next layer, or even a mid layer. Do you order directly from the factory? I know you're on staff, right?
