I know its kind of early for this but I want to do some reading to see my options. Right now I have the UA Coldgear 3.0 that I wear as my first layer. I was thinking about upgrading to the 4.0 or 5.0 but wanted to see what else is out there.

what is the warmest base layer out there? I thought about going with something like the UA Heat gear as my first layer as it wicks moisture really well and then get the heavy weight 5.0 as my second layer.

Right now in the coldest of bowhunts I'm wearing 5 layers which includes my jacket. I'd like to cut 1 layer out if I can find a better base layer.

    Just seeing my options.

    Thank you

I wear the UA Tree Stand version. IMO it does a great job of wicking moisture and blocking the wind.

UA treestand/5.0 seems to be the warmest , I also wear the first lite base layers, and sitka heavyweight core

I'm anxious to try first lite merino wool. I wear Silver Tec as a first layer then UA 2.0 as a second then Cabelas EWCS or whatever it's called in Polar weight as my third. Then bibs and jacket.

Thanks guys, Sounds like we are all layering very similar to each other. I never knew they made a UA 5.0 ??? I'm definately going to check that out.

Merino wool base layers are by far the best available. For warmth I prefer a mid or heavy weight. Minus 33, Kuiu, and First Lite are all good options,

I'm going to be buying my first set of merino wool for my upcoming elk hunt. I hear it dries well and doesn't stink as quickly as UA and other base layers. Since I'll be wearing my clothes for several days I need to be comfortable. Most likely going with Kuiu base layers.

Icebreaker! I've been wearing icebreaker for years and it never stinks even after days of heavy use. It keeps me cool when hot and warm when cold. They make all sorts of clothing. I avoid anything with a synthetic blend to avoid any funk. It's my go to clothes whether I need a base layer or light T-shirt for runs. You really do get what you pay for, but you can find a great deal if you wait for sales.
