“Wallace also believes that minorities are disproportionately drawn to playing the lottery.”

“The NAACP chapter in Dallas is calling for an end to the Texas state lottery, saying the game drains the finances of low-income ticket-buyers who can least afford it, especially minorities.”

Isn’t this a issue of personal freedom? Does the nanny state need to protect people from themselves in regards to how people spend their money?????

Now I understand the lottery is a tax on people that are bad with math and I don’t know if Government ought to be in the gambling business and I personally dont play lottery games but I fail to see how Race, creed or other demographics are disproportionately singled out. I don’t see how any state lottery can be deemed discriminatory. By its very nature, its uber inclusive.

When people play the lottery or gamble to sustain their very existence then they're idiots. I play it as a game and I only play it when I feel the numbers favor my style of play. By sticking to this I stay ahead.

Other people of all nationalities play thinking they are going to win every time these individuals are fools. My rent is due I'll play the lottery, car payment is due, play the lottery. These very reason is what make the select few that read stories of others hardship playing the lottery turning to gold.

Only for theirs to turn to mud. This is a reason why people play, but don't explain why the NAACP indulge in stopping the lottery.

Here's an ideal. keep your damn money in your pocket and don't play.

Crabtree I will say this since my last lottery win of those numbers I posted...5 of those numbers have played in various states three of which were in North Carolina. So let's see how these set of numbers work for those poor lottery players..

    1-5-0-3
    2-1-8-7
    7-4-6-2

Win or lose the lottery is a choice not a way of life. Unless you win the whole sha-bang-a-bang.

I value the money that I earn so much that I'm not willing to gamble it away on a 10,000,000 to 1 chance. I guess if I didn't earn the money I have I might have a different outlook.

Well if the NAACP is for it... I am probably against it and vice versa. But I was passing through Memphis and watched a fella spend his entire paycheck buying lottery tickets, scraping off the gray stuff, then coming back, buying another ticket, repeat, etc... I could't help but wonder if he was supposed to be buying formula, diapers, gas or food. Even the guy at the desk suggested he save some of his check. He was definitely in way too deep. It may be none of my business but if there were little ones or a wife, he has a greater responsibility to them than that and I can see wards of the state in his future. Who will pay that cost? Just something to chew on.

I buy a lottery or a big game ticket maybe once every several months. Maybe twice last year. I'm feeling frisky and $5 won't break me so I buy a ticket. Do I expect to win? Hell no... although I did win $780 once. LOL How about this... we can say it's illegal for poor folks, minorities and crotchetty old men to buy a ticket. LOL

So did I....Today on a whim playing the numbers I previously posted...one number in particular 7-4-6-2. That number being my birth-date, my mother told me that I was nearly born on the 5th. Considering that I changed my 4 to 5 and guess what happened.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME $1.00 STRAIGHT AND $1.00 ANY! It's a game not a way of life.

Clearly, minorities are too stupid to make their own decisions with their money. Big Brother and the nanny state need to make these choices for them.

(I'm pretty sure that's what the NAACP is saying...)

In many minority neighborhoods the lottery is heavily advertised as were in many non-minority neighborhoods it is not...There's Billboards touting large prizes won daily in areas where I live and yet there are Billboards for playing the Virginia Lottery near trailer parks and and depressed areas near here.

When I play and trust me I try never ti play in rush hours, but I'm seeing more and more college students playing the lottery. When I win something like today. I will go to another store in a week or two so people won't know or remember.

By in large Im seeing more and more White's playing the lottery many will simply say they want enough money to get away from their wives, husbands or just to get away. This was suppose to be my week of flying lessons skydiving and a trip home, with the storm and power-outage.

A little win is no comfort it's fun to win, but as I will keep saying it's a game of chance and until people relize that the lottery is a game for fools.

Do me a favor and Click below here and tell me what you're seeing advertised for the Veterans is disgusting.

I have to say that's the first thing I've every agreed with the NAACP about.

I agree our government should NEVER have been involved in the lottery and should not alow it.
As far as people knowing better than to play the lottery at such ridiculous odd, aren't we suppose to protect the mentally challenged?

I walk by a street person today as I was going into a convenance store and I thought he was going to ask me for money and as walked by him I notices he was working on scratching off a lottery ticket.

I thought wth? Now you have to worry about the homeless spending spending your hand out money on alcohol drugs cigaretts AND lottery tickets? Unreal stupidity.

Look folks... poor, rich, stupid, educated, just plain dumb... it doesn't matter. There are always people from all walks of life looking for the free meal, the big win, the free lunch and happiness ever after. At the head of the list are the states. They love the free lunch they're getting with everyones ticket purchases. They are not going to give up their lotteriess. I remember when the lotteries first started in Maryland. This black lady from the "Hood" one 5 million in the first really big Jackpot. They went back no too many years later to see how she had done. She was broke and on welfare. She had pissed the whole thing away. Just like this football player... what in the heck was his name. Saw today he blew 1 million on a weekend spree of spending and blowing money. You can't fix stupid. If you don't give them a lottery... we'll go back to the days of the back alley numbers rackets.

Let's see....they want to ban the lottery because poor people spend money on it. What's next trying to ban unhealthy food for fat people? Oh, sorry there are some states who are trying to do this. I don't need a nanny state. Leave the legislation for REAL problems, not this BS.

How about just making it illegal to collect any monies from a lottery if your on any form of government assistance?

If you can't afford to take care of yourself then you shoulders be wasting money on BS lottery tickets.

    Can I get an Amen?

Let's just ban everything that's addictive. If everything anyone could become addicted to is banned and the government regulates everything we do, wouldn't that mean we're living in North Korea, not America?

Just like education the issues is poverty. Poor people are looking for a way out. Lottery is a false hope, but they buy into it.
What the NAACP is trying to do is break the cycle current poor African Americans are in. There are white, Hispanic and many other races in the same situation. Banning the lottery is not going to fix their problem. A culture change is the only thing that will. Education is the key, but we as a nation do not value education anymore. We spend a lot money, but we do value it.
