Thanks to the help of my brother jknierim, this thing should be ready to hunt from shortly after the crops are out of the field
That's pretty neat! How are you going to handle the windows and if you don't mind me asking, how much do you have in it in materials and time?
Still have to cut the windows out, we ran out of time last nite. So far I have about $80 in it, but we had cattle panels laying around here that I used. I've got about 10 hrs off and on in it so far. I don't have much time to work on it so I do a little here and a little there
I just picked up some supplies for building two of those. I also have some panels laying around. What size panels did you use and what dimensions did you end up with. Also, did you use landscaping straw mats? If so, will you need to wrap them with bale twine so they dont come apart as the thread rots? Looks really good!
I made it 6' long and 3 1/2' wide. Used 2 panels 4x16 to roll around frame. Ordered straw erosion matting online. 4'x180' for about $54 I think. I doubled the layers on outside, it's pretty thinly spaced. Wrapped 4mil black plastic painters drop-cloth around it first to help it keep moisture out. going to leave most of ends without plastic so it can breathe a bit
Thanks for the reply. Again, it really looks good. Just a note. That erosion matting is usually made with string that is designed to rot away. The ones I know that have used it, also wrapped their blind with some type of nylon twine. Post up some pics when you get it put in place to hunt out of. Thanks again.
Yes, this is designed to rot away. I'ts rated for 12 months. I figured that would last at least the whole hunting season. I plan to put a new layer on every year so it looks like a fresh bale starting out. The roll I bought should cover it at least twice, as long as I can keep it dry through the year. Even if not, it wasn't that expensive
Oh, I see. I may be lazy with mine and see if I can get a couple of years out of it. But I suppose once it is built, putting the staw on is actually the easy part. Thanks.
