No worries Dave. The riser has 10 coats of finish on her 6 of the antique oil and 4 satin poly over the top to dull it down and to protect the writting
Well the Limb tip overlay material came in yesterday afternoon so it's back to work. Oh do I hate hand sanding:d Here is 1 tip after the glue up and 2 hours of sanding and I still have another hour or so of sanding to do to it.
Alright we are cookin with porta gas now:d Here is limb #1 hanging up with the first coat. This will be the top limb I had to grind a section off to clear up the sight window. Anybody apart from me feel like smackin the Shamwow guy????????????????????
Ok limb # 2 is done and hanging in the shop with the first coat drying All thats left is finish off the string, give the limbs a light sanding, test shoot her, a couple more coats of finish on the limbs and add the felt to the riser and she will be all done ready to ship. The Shafts, feathers and blunts should be at the shop so I will go there tomorrow morn to test shoot her and pick those up. So all I will be missing for the parcel is the tabs from Joe.
:d :d :d :d I have that honor in the morning :d Ok here she is put together, all thats left is to finish the string, give the limbs a light sanding and a couple of more coats of finish. Oh and to write some nasty stuff about the British on the bottom limb:d :d Just kidding Dave. Got to write the bow deails on the limbs before I put the final coats of finish on. I'll get some better pics in the daylight tomorrow.
Steve. Thanks mate. These pics really don't do her any justice. Ok the string is complete so scratch that off the list:d Here she is at brace.
Sweet child of mine , she looks amazing . Russ your craftsmanship is awesome mate , she looks great strung up and ready to go . Zach ... I really cannot wait to take her out and fling some arrows , work on form , Its gonna be a whole new ball game and i'm looking forward to the Trad archery challenge . I have done nothing but go on about this bow to my freinds for weeks now and the guys on the BBA website are looking forward to seeing her in May when we meet up for a group shoot . I've worked overtime and sold a whole load of stuff to afford this bow , but i have a bow that was made for me and made from the woods i chose . Russ has pulled out all stops to make me a one off bow to be proud of , Thanks mate you did real gooood .
Thank you to all for the comments I really do appreciate it. DC. I was aiming for 66" 50lb @ 27" Final specs 65" 51lb @ 27" Here are some pics in daylight. Even these pics do not do her any justice. She shoots just as good as she looks I put about 100 arrows through her this morning, she has a nice smooth draw, the arrows hit where she is pointed and hit with authority I am about to tear her down to sand the limbs down put on the specs and give the limbs the final few coats of finish. I will take some more pics of the riser and post here in a little bit. Hopefully I have build Dave a bow he can be proud of for many years to come.
Pics never do anything justice Russ, no doubt about that. When you zoomed In on the grains on the riser It really brought out the beauty In It for us all to see. Excellent!!
Steve. Yes it did but in all honesty it does look a lot better than any picture can capture. Here is some of the gear I have picked up for Dave, missing from the pic is the brass inserts, I am still waiting on the Tabs from Joe. Ain't I good at spending Dave's hard earned money:d The 2 rolls of fletch tape are the ones Bobby sent me to put in the care package.
When myself and Russ first got chance to talk about what i wanted from my bow ie woods , specs and small details he said yes to everything i asked of him . At first i was reluctant to spend so much on a bow , but after seeing Russ's work and what Russ has put into my bow , i know it was without a doubt the best decision i've made in a long time . I've loved watching her being built and seeing the reaction from others as the bow has progressed , she's turned out a beauty and i am sure she will exceed all expectations . Wow look at all that gear , i'm gonna be busy Cheers Russ ,its been great viewing mate . Next post will be " Kanga Bogan Halo's first outing " , keep yer eyes open ... it should be entertaining ( i think i can safely say , i won't have a dozen arrows for long ) :d .
I did get to touch it yesterday, Russ brought it by my house yesterday. I hate to admit it, but great work for an Red Neck Aussie.. Good job Russ.
Did she feel good dingus Nice one Joe , i should make the vegas round for the end of the month and i don't care what i score :d
