I've had several conifers die this year and when they look like they're starting to die, I cut them down to try and stem the spread of those dang beetles that are killing them. Then I noticed the pin oaks are dying off due to another bug. Lately, I noticed that several of my wild cherry trees are leaking sap down the sides of them and dying. I went out today and cut close to a cord of cherry and I have a cord of hickory already cut. Too bad I don't have a smoker big enough to warrant having his much smoking wood!
Same is true around here. You may have a problem with the emerald ash borer beetle. look into it! But this is a terrible year for mast. Only thing ive seen to amount to anything is chestnut oaks, and very little of those.
Yeah its a major deal the bag worm are destroying everything. I've sprayed seven all over trying to salvage so far barely working. When you drive by the farms from a distance you can see the destruction. Not many have no damage that I've seen. You have to spray them ASAP the stress of this summer has just added to the lifelessness of these trees. Also, the tree fertilizer spikes around the outside of treeline helps. It is a slow death. The tree foilage just gets thinner & thinner and then the tops go first. Really $uck$, hopefully , we'll get through this year and next year will not be as bad! Japanese beetles were'nt as bad this year! I feel your pain!
