I didn't get the opportunity to scout the property I'm hunting before the season started. So, after sitting in a couple of low probability locations for weeks, watching all the action going on in the last few days 500 yards away, I moved a stand to a prime spot today. I feel like I'm behind the 8 ball a little, but I'm very excited about the prospects now. I guess the only way I'm going to find out whether it was a smart move, or not, is if I'm successful.
Whenever I get a chance to hunt new ground- scouting is the first thing I do. Weather that is in Jun, October, November, etc. Scouting CAN really cut down that learning curve, on a new piece. I think your new move should help!
On my farm I just hung a new stand today, and will probably hang another Tuesday. The standing corn has deer patterns out of whack, and I am really struggling to get on them out there. Smart move IMO.
i agree...you go in the woods one time, hopefully you dont spook anything to bad...find what you want, and get out....i would have But i suck at hunting ..soo..haha
Sounds to me like you made a good move...hey what do you have to lose....I think sometimes we get so caught up in not spooking deer craze that we limit our options as far as stand placement goes...I for one am guilty and it has bit me in the a$$ B4....So that said....Good Luck!!!
Looks like it was a good move. I passed up a small buck last night, and 2 this morning. (I always wonder if that's the best it gets.) Deer pass consistently on both sides of me now. It's just a matter of time now. Sure wish they'd get the corn down on both sides of me though.
