I don't know if anyone has posted this or not. This happened here in Oklahoma. Ticks and the nasty diseases they carry are no joke. This poor lady went to sleep and will wake up missing her legs and arms.

The crazy part is my buddy and I along with our two kids went shooting back in early July. When we got home that day we had a few ticks on us. He ended up getting sick later that night. Fast forward a week or so and he tested positive for Rocky Mountain spotted fever. He still hasn't recovered from that. Looking back we are thankful that it was him that got it and not one of our 5 year old's.

Dang, that sounds terrible. I almost wish we had rattle snakes instead of ticks.

We have both. Along with a bunch of other critters.

I'm sure glad ticks are like a myth where I live. Don't think I'd spend as much time outdoors if they were really prevalent.

I hate this little critters. If something is going to kill me or make me extremely sick, why does it have to be the size of a pin head?!? That's just evil.

Wow, that's horrible. I absolutely hate ticks. One of our farms is crawling with ticks, especially seed ticks. We've started using a Sawyer brand spray and it works very well. The ticks are bad enough there that I change clothes on site before I leave, throw all clothes into the washer when I get home, inspect for ticks, then get a shower.

    If anybody is interested: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/prod...I&srccode=cii_328768002&cpncode=36-87583639-2

This stuff works well enough that I found seed ticks on my pants after spraying that just shriveled up and died when they crawled onto me. I'm a firm believer in it.

Jake D., yes, that is the same stuff I use. Works very well and has no odor to it. I am thankful in my neck of the woods, ticks are prevalent in the spring and early part of summer. By fall, they are not really a problem. I do hunt spring turkey and spring squirrel. That is when I use Sawyer's Permethrin. Very effective.
Ticks are very evil little critters. I hate hearing stories about ticks. Very sad.

Man that sucks! I hate ticks. What purpose do they really serve? I know chickens eat them and I am sure other birds do too. I hate the Summertime, especially because of ticks, mosquitoes and the heat. Sawyer's Permethrin is awesome. I treat everything I have with it!

And another reason I don't hunt much in September here.

we used sawyers to treat clothes in southern Afghanistan in 2005 and since then I've used it to treat all my recreation and hunting pants and shirts. Buying the sawyers kits was costing a bundle so a few years ago I bought a pint of the peretherum and diluted it myself to soak clothes in. either way it may be the best protection we can get for ticks. Heard that deet didn't work that well on them.

That's a very sad story.. I'm 21 and have been battling Lyme disease for the last 2 1/2 years. At one point I was completely disabled and had take a full year off from school. I still don't feel remotely close to 100% but manage to function now most days. I owe my life to my LLMD who has been treating me for the past 1 1/2 years

That's rough! 2 1/2 years would be hell. Hopefully you fully recover soon.

My great uncle was bit 7 or 8 years ago. He was paralyzed for over 3 years from it. He is just now getting where he can walk ok. tick bites are no joke.

You are correct about that. :) I live in the land of 5 deer per square mile.
