Welp, I just found out today that the place I've been working at the past 4 years isn't hiring any summer student workers. I really relied on this job, as it was a really stable position with the Illinois Secretary of State. I've had good evaluations each year that I've worked there, and it really is a great program that they have for students that are home for the summer. Now I'm scrambling around like crazy, because without a full time job I'm screwed. I've got about enough money left to pay my rent and utilities here at school for the next two months, then I'll be tapped out. I've also been informed that my part-time job here at school in an office on campus will likely not be able to employ me next year due to budget cutbacks. As I know this is a reality that many people have faced, it's my first experience with it. I'm just praying things will work out and I'll be able to find something ot get my by. I've got one year left of school tuition/rent/utilities to get by on, then I HOPE I can find a job when I graduate. Sorry for the rant, but it feels good to get it off my chest.

Lots of people are in the same boat as you. You need to be looking everyday. In this area, lots of factory's hire college students for summer help. I worked at Mead notebooks for 4 summers through college. Good luck finding something.

I'm in a small rural town called Oakford that only has a population of about 300 ppl, and about the only place to get a job is an hour away in Springfield. I'm attending school at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

Good luck Brandon. Have you thought about maybe working as a waiter part-time, at like 15-20 hours a week? Any Western Illinois alumni that own construction/landscaping companies where you could work part time? Are there any hotels near by where you could pick up a couple of shifts a week? Just some thoughts.

I say try to find a construction job, thats what I do. We work around 60 hours a week, making $12-$15 an hour. It adds up pretty fast for a college student! I worked a year and bought a truck, and had it paid of in a little over a year. Now this summer I won't have to shell out money for anything but gas and hunting stuff :D and the girlfriend too I suppose

How close to an airport are you, Brandon???? I know when I was in college, UPS/Fedex, and DHL were always hiring college kids at the airport to handle packages. That may be an option, if you have something like that local.....

Good Luck, I hate to hear it, but it's becoming common place unfortunately.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I really appreciate it. I just mailed out a couple of applications today, so hopefully one of them works out. I'm trying to take advantage of this weekend the best I can in the job search since I'm hope for the weekend.
