Started well enough got up at 3:30 to head out to my favorite turkey grounds. I had to get the snow shoes out because the snow is still 12 to 15 inches deep. 30 yards in to my walk my binding on the right shoe snaps so I take off the snow shoes. It is about a half mile to were I am going. I can walk on top of the snow for the most part but every three or four steps I break through. Get to my area and don't hear anything at all when I walk out I don't cut a single turkey track. This long winter must have changed their patterns a lot. Head to another area, 8 to 10 birds in the field at least three toms. So I park quite a way away and can use a peninsula of timber for cover. I remember thinking the frozen over creek is wider than I remember not a big deal the water is ankle high, well half way across I fall through, the water is thigh deep and COLD, really COLD. I set up for the birds but it is 25 degrees out and I am freezing, I bag it and get to the truck un dress to my undies and get in. Put the heater on high. Ten minutes later two toms are right where I was set up. Did I mention the water was cold? To top it off I got pulled over on the way home and had to explain to the Sherriff's Deputy why I was driving in my underwear. What a day.
Whoever said "A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work?" The day you had today would make it debatable for sure! :D
Bummer! Just look at it like it was gods way of telling you those Toms weren't for you and you are meant to shoot a much bigger one this year!!
That is a crazy day hunting for sure...but it would have been pretty funny watching you explain that to the cops
