Well, last year some of you may remember me having a ton of bucks in my yard all summer and some really nice ones, ending with me shooting a big 7 pt. from the batch. This year was a different story. I dont think I saw a buck all summer, just the odd doe here & there. However with the huge acorn crop I knew they had to be around. I was in a tired mood last night so I figure I would just head behind the house, since I hadnt been there all year. On my way in I found 3 fresh scrapes and bumped 2 does. Looked promising already. Not 30 minutes into the sit I see a deer, looked like a buck. Throwing the binos on him confirmed a shooter! He was basically headed straight for me on a string. Well around 30-35 yds he turns and I didnt think he was going to give me a shot. But he turned slightly again and would come thru an opening just under 30 yds. Just as he entered it, I drew, he stopped to sniff. After a while I just let down and of course he moves again, so I draw and had to "maa" to stop him. I placed my 28 yd pin and let her fly. The arrow struck with a heavy thud, and he lurched forward, trying to run as best he could with a busted shoulder. He stops, and stood there for about a minute or so and slumped to the ground. All told he went 75 yds, really no blood trail, the arrow broke his opposite shoulder.
Way to go, Ryan!!! Great buck!! I remember the days I could hunt behind my house ..... you are a blessed man
