I have always carried a backpack with me but that may be changing. We have been in the low 20's and teens here the last few weeks with the humidity upwards of 90%. That has promted me to get some handwarmers and a hand pouch? (like NFL QB's wear) I do not dress at the tree and most of the crap I carry in the backpack is useless. I have enjoyed no carrying the pack as the pouch has a pocket in the front that holds my calls and any little tidbits I may need. Do any of you carry a fanny pack over a back pack and if so what brands do you reccomend. Do that make a fanny pack with a place to warm you hands as well?
I use both a back-pack and a fanny pack. During the rut, I generally bring more items with me, and, my sits may be longer, so I go with a back-pack. I also use a back pack if I have a long walk. I'll put my outer garments, hat, face mask and such in the pack and get dressed when I'm closer to my destination. Outside of those situations, I'm generally using some kind of fanny pack. Inside is usually a windicator, binos, range finder, a grunt tube, maybe a can call, a knife, flashlight and screw-in bow hook. Works fine for me. I have 2 fanny packs that I bought for around $20; pretty basic. As for the hands; I generally just stick my hands in my pockets.
I have pretty much got away from any pack unless sitting for many hours. I have incorporated one of the "saddlebags" Summit, and others sell that attaches to my climber. I can fit whatever is needed for a morning or evening sit in that. jmho
I have a couple bags rigged on my treewalker, and that is VERY convienent. A gentleman gave me free rain of his property and all the stands until the end of season for his county, I could not take my climber, and that is when my hand mit became my "backpack". What brand fanny pack are you guys using?
I use a backpack unless i take my climber then I use a fanny pack. I have a buddy that uses these saddlebags that strap around your thighs and you have everything right there. Not sure what brand they are but I have never found them anywhere.
I have two. A Badlands Monster fanny pack, and a Timberhawk Rutbuster backpack. I used the Timberhawk this season exclusively, but I think I may like the Monster a bit better. I can get everything I need into the Monster, snugly, and it worked great. I thought I'd like to strap the pack to the stand, so I got the Timberhawk to do this. Turns out, I didn't like how much weight was placed on the shoulders this way, with a climber. With the Monster fanny, I could put it on first, then throw my stand on over it. It really worked great that way and distributed the weight better IMO. I really like the Timberhawk pack, and will keep it for other types of hunting. But for treestand whitetails, I like my Monster fanny pack.
I've got a fanny pack custom-made for me by Gray Wolf Woolens, but it's not too much different from any one you could purchase at Walmart other than its Predator Fall Gray in wolfskin... It's what I carry in EVERY single hunt... pretty much got it down to a science: if I can't fit it in my fanny pack, it doesn't need to go into the woods with me.
For me, I am a thermos guy .... I LOVE drinking coffee in the stand and taking everything in ... love it .... I also carry many useful things in mine .... I found out one HUGE thing ... I purchased a Badlands backpack for $70 and I dont even feel it on .... I cannot believe the difference it makes from the cheap one I owned ,,,,,
i have one of each. I take the backpack for all day adventures. it has a water bag, which has proven amazing, the fanny pack is great for most occasions tho
I use a Fanny Pack all the time! My advice is to buy the best you can afford. Many of the cheap ones are just throwing money away On many of my all day sits in Nov I'll take a Back Pack, but for me a top quality fanny pack is a must! Dan
Something like this is starting to appeal to me for next season. I plan on hunting a bit more from the ground so I need something that is a little more comfortable than my current fanny packs.
Tony, no I do not my friend. I just like the look of it, plus the backstraps look like they would help my back pain a bit by spreading the load.
