Your in the ball park as far as size. I think 5000-7000 is workable. As to the packs themselves the ultra wouldn't be a consideration for me as I felt they were horrible with a load. The Icon pro are much better, not my first choice by any stretch but they are serviceable. If you can get one on sale 30% off they might even be considered a decent value. That said I would also check other brands as well....

Packs are pretty subjective from person to person. With a 500 budget you can look at several top end brands of packs. Kifaru, Stone Glacier, mystery ranch, Exo, Seek outside ...they all make top quality products. Don't discount picking something up used as well. I know guys that change packs more then they change their underwear. I really like mystery ranch, the old nice frame really fit me well and now I am using the guide lite frame and it carries just as well for me. Over the last five years or so I owned kifaru and kuiu also.
I recommend picking up used online whatever you decide. I picked up a Kifaru T2 (with 3 add ons) last year for $320 shipped and no tax, was in excellent shape. Should be all I ever need, plus has ability to add extra pockets and accessories. Lots of goods choices out there.
Only thing I'd add is if you have the opportunity to try some of the packs that trail mentioned with some weight (like 60-100#) it will greatly help you in getting to a short list.
I would shop used if you can find a deal. I jumped on a Kuiu Icon 7200 for 30% off. So far I like it, but I have not had it under a heavy load yet. Exo and Kifaru were my forst choices. Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
