My second best hunt ever, (numbers wise) I forgot my boots. In Central, IL last year we had almost no snow during Deer Season. The last weekend of bow season, we got 2-4 inches on a Friday. Saturday, I had a great set-up with 80 acres and ten stands and all day. I must have sat in 7-8 different stands and saw over 35 deer. But as I packed my layers on I realized I forgot my tall, warm, rubber knee boots at home. So I was out there in my ankle high work/dress boots...freezing! I would have had a great shot at several deer, but had to get down an hour early because my toes were frozen. ugggg! How could I do that? At least you are sitting in a spot you picked at one time?
well, gentleman, I have miserable news. idiot moment number 2 for the night. Had a doe come in and stop broadside 12 yards, missed the shot. not sure what happened. the arrow hit her at the base of the neck and at the very top of the shoulders, all meat hit . I caught up to her several hundred yards later and watch her feed a nother group of does for nearly an hour . not sure when I will make it out again, thoroughly disgusted with myself at the moment. can't catch a break this season. Sorry to hear bro. Like I said in my txt... we deserve to hunt together! Mysery loves company Monday just might be the day for both of us!
Meet in the middle? Or better yet, lets head north, I hear they have big deer up there. Maybe we won't miss the lungs? Here is where the arrow hit. FML
How did you go about painting your bow, i.e. what did you tape off, how did you wrap the string to keep it clean? I'm seriously thinking about doing some custom paint work on my bow during the offseason.
I'll completely dismantle the bow. No taping required. A good paint job is all in your prep work. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Getting ready to head back out here in a few. Going to be sitting in the same stand that I shot the doe out of. Going to be a tough one to climb into and feel excited about. Looking at 23 degrees with a slight wind. Needless to say, ill be bundled up! Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Settled in now. 29 degrees with a slight wind out of the SE. Very light snow. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks buddy. It was a tough pill to swallow, but it is bowhunting. Last nights hunt was a goose egg. A hiker did hike through the area the deer use to cross at the exact time they always come through, though. Not sure how much, if any, hunting will get done this week as we leave Thursday night for our mule deer hunt. I will be hitting the range a few times to do some longer range broadhead practice. The area we will be hunting is comprised of steep rolling hills and a nearly nonexistent presence of trees or cover. Will likely wait until we get a group of deer feeding or bedding in an area for a good stalk. Have to use the terrain. This will be my first hunt of this caliber and I am stoked! I will not hold out for anything of size on this trip as I am looking for the experience and taking my first mule deer with a bow. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
